June 1942 at Louisville,Kentucky.Served with the 389th Bomb Group
[Heavy] "The Sky Scorpions" 567th Bombardment Squadron based at
Hethel Airfield Norfork,England Flying B-24H Liberator Serial Number
42-95122 "The Magic Carpet" as radio operator.On 21 June 1944 on a
bomb run to Berlin,Germany the flight was attacked by 20 to 40
German fighters ME 410's."The Magic Carpet" was hit and set afire.It crashed at Gross-Beeren,Germany 3 KIA'S and 7 POW's.He
bailed out and was captured at 12:30 on 21 June 1944 near Berlin. He
was detained at Stalag Luft IV at
Gross-Tychow,Pomerania.[Poland]Moved to Wobbelin Bei Ludwigslust and
to Usedombie Savenmunde 54-16. Returned to U.S. Military control on
8 June 1945
