Entered into service on 4 May 1942 at Louisville,Kentucky.Assigned
to the 612th Tank Destroyer Battalion [self-Propelled]M18 76mm GMC
"Hell Cat"Attached to the 2nd Infantry Division. Trained at Camp
Swift,Texas,Camp Bowie,Texas and Fort Hood,Texas. Sailed on 7 April
1944 on the S.S. Ile de France to Greenoch,Scotland. Arrived on the
continent on 14 June 1944.Awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Heroic
Achievement Near Hofgiesmar,Germany.And the Purple Heart Medal for
wounds received as a result of enemy action.[He refused to be
evacuated for right hip wound.]The European,African,Middle Eastern
Campaign Medal with 5 Bronze Campaign Stars for Normandy,Northern
France,Rhineland Ardennes and Central Europe.
