World War II Veteran.
Enlisted on 14 September 1942 at Louisville,Kentucky.Home base
Molesworth, England served with the 303rd Bomb Group[Heavy] "Hell's
Angels"360th Bomber Squadron.Assigned to B17G #42-5483 "Red Ass"as a
waist gunner, assistance engineer.29 November 1943 on a mission to
Bremen,Germany this aircraft had engine and supercharger problems
over the target and was attacked by ME-210 German fighters putting
20 mm shells in to the copit killing four crewmen, six crewmen
bailed out and became POW's.The plane crashed near
Renslage,Germany.Howard was a POW at Stalag 2b at Hammerstein.on 20
December 1944 while participating in an escape attempt he was shot
and killed .He is buried at the Ardennes American Cemetery
Liege,Belgium.
