ENLISTED ON JUNE 6, 1942 AT LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY. REPORTED ABOARD THE USS DEIMOS AK-78 (CARGO SHIP)
SAILED FROM SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA ON JANUARY 27, 1943 FOR ESPIRITU SANTO, NEW HEBRIDES AND TOWNSVILLE, AUSTRALIA. SAILED FOR NOUMEA, NEW CALEDONIA AND GUADALCANAL ON JUNE 23, 1943. SHE WAS TORPEDOED ON THE PORTSIDE AFT BY THE JAPANESE SUBMARINE RO-103. EFFORTS TO SAVE HER FAILED AND SHE WAS SUNK BY GUN FIRE FROM THE USS O'BANNON DD-450 OFF SAN CRISTOBAL ISLAND, SOLOMON ISLANDS. HE WAS LOST IN THIS ACTION, NON-RECOVERABLE. MEMORIALIZED AT MANILA AMERICAN CEMETERY, FORT BONIFACIO, MANILA, PHILIPPINES. RATING OF MACHINIST'S MATE SECOND CLASS PETTY OFFICER.
