BATTLE DAMAGE REPAIR SHIP. DEPARTED NORFOLK, VIRGINIA ON 4 AUGUST
1944 FOR THE PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS WITH STOPS AT GUANTANAMO
BAY CUBA, PANAMA CANAL AND ON TO ULITHI IN THE CAROLINE ISLANDS.
ARRIVED ON 21 OCTOBER 1944. DEPARTED ON 19 APRIL 1945 FOR KERAMA
RETTO, OKINAWA, ARRIVED ON 10 JULY 1945. ON 9 OCTOBER 1945 THE
NESTOR WAS DRIVEN AGROUND BY TYPHOON LOUISE AND HAD TO BE ABANDONED
AND DECOMMISSIONED. AWARDS INCLUDE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL,
ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH ONE BRONZE STAR FOR
OKINAWA-GUNTO OPERATION, WWII VICTORY MEDAL, AND NAVY OCCUPATION
SERVICE MEDAL WITH ASIA CLASP. SEAMAN FIRST CLASS.
