ENLISTED ON 13 DECEMBER 1940 IN LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY. REPORTED ABOARD THE USS SARATOGA (CV-3), 10 MARCH 1941. SERVED IN THE ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN. ON THE NIGHT OF 21 FEBRUARY 1945 OFF THE COAST OF IWO JIMA AND CHI-CHI JIMA, THE SHIP WAS HIT BY SIX JAPANESE PLANES HITTING IT FIVE TIMES. HE WAS MISSING IN ACTION. HE IS ON THE TABLET OF THE MISSING AT HONOLULU, HAWAII.
RATING OF GUNNER'S MATE SECOND CLASS PETTY OFFICER.
