ACTIVITY DURING WWII

ENTERED SERVICE ON 24 JULY 1943 AT EVANSVILLE, INDIANA. SERVED ABOARD THE USS PC-564, A SUBMARINE CHASER. ON MARCH 8, 1945 ENGAGED 4 GERMAN MINESWEEPERS AND 9 SMALL CRAFT. ON 9 MARCH 1945 OUTGUNNED AND BADLY DAMAGED, THEY MANAGED TO OUTRUN THE GERMAN FORCES AND GROUNDED AT PIERRE DE HERPIN, FRANCE. 14 MEN WERE CAPTURE BY GERMAN FORCES. HE WAS HELD AT JERSEY PRISONER OF WAR CAMP, CHANNEL ISLAND 4902 UNTIL 27 JUNE 1946. RATING OF SEAMAN SECOND CLASS.
