INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA. REPORTED ABOARD THE USS NASSAU CVE-16, A BOGUE CLASS
ESCORT CARRIER. ASSIGNED TO THE PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS. TASKED WITH THE
DUTY OF FERRYING AIRCRAFT AND PILOTS TO THE THEATER. SEPTEMBER, 1944 ASSIGNED TO
ADMIRAL HALSEY'S THIRD FLEET AS PART OF TASK GROUP 38 OPERATING OFF THE
PHILIPPINE ISLANDS, FORMOSA, ULITHI ATOLL AND THE CAROLINE ISLANDS. SPENT THE
REST OF THE WAR FERRYING AIRCRAFT BETWEEN THE UNITED STATES AND THE PACIFIC
THEATER OF OPERATIONS. RATING OF METALSMITH SECOND CLASS PETTY OFFICER. |
