LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY. 18 APRIL 1939 ASSIGNED TO THE USS HENDERSON AP-1, MINE
LAYER AND SEA PLANE TENDER, ATLANTIC FLEET. 30 JUNE 1939 ASSIGNED TO THE USS
OGLALA CM-4. 2 JULY 1940 ASSIGNED TO THE USS PRUITT DM-22, A CLEMSON CLASS
DESTROYER. 7 DECEMBER 1941 AT PEARL HARBOR FOR OVERHAUL. JANUARY, 1942 TOOK UP
OFF SHORE PATROL AND MINE LAYING DUTY. 19 JUNE 1942 SAILED FOR BREMERTON,
WASHINGTON AND ALEUTIAN ISLAND FOR MINE LAYING OPERATIONS. 18 JUNE 1943 ASSIGNED
TO THE USS HAZELWOOD DD-531, A FLETCHER CLASS DESTROYER. SAILED FOR THE WESTERN
PACIFIC ON 5 SEPTEMBER 1943 AS PART OF A FAST CARRIER TASK FORCE TO STRIKE ON
TARAWA, GILBERT ISLANDS AND WAKE ISLAND. 11 OCTOBER 1943 RETURNED TO PEARL
HARBOR. 13 NOVEMBER 1943 RETURNED TO THE PACIFIC FOR OPERATION UNTIL CLOSE OF
THE WAR. RATING OF MACHINIST'S MATE CHIEF PETTY OFFICER.
