DIED -
On yesterday evening shortly after 8 o'clock, of consumption, W. C. Babcock, in the 39th year of his age. Mr. Babcock has been in the employ of the Pittsburg, Fort Wayne & Chicago Railway for the past fifteen years, for much of that time as assistant foreman of the car shops. He was a Knight Templar, a past master of the Summit City Lodge No. 170, and also an Odd Fellow - a member of Harmony Lodge. The deceased has been suffering for a long time with consumption, and about three years ago visited Minnesota, returning in an improved state. Last June, however, he went to Denver, as he had been failing rapidly, and remained in that place until last month, when he came back to this city very weak, and since then has been confined to the house. He leaves a wife, but no children, but we understand that he was insured in her favor for $5,000 in the Masonic Mutual Benefit Society of Indiana. The funeral services will take place from his late residence, No. 149 Holman Street, on Thursday afternoon at 1 o'clock and will be in charge of the Knights Templar and Master Masons. The death of Mr. Babcock, although not sudden, will take many by surprise. He was a man who attracted to himself many friends, and had no enemies as far as we can learn. He was universally beloved by his fellow workmen, and will not soon be forgotten by them.

The man killed on the St. Mary's River Bridge by a Wabash train Thursday night was William H. Babcock, an aged citizen, who resided with his son, Oliver L. Babcock at 68 Masterson Avenue. After the remains were taken to the Peltier Morgue yesterday morning someone gave the information that it might be Mr. Babcock and a policeman went to the home of the son to make the inquiry. It was ascertained that the old gentleman left home at 3 o'clock Thursday afternoon to go to the residence of another son, Admund, who resides at 23 Oak Street, and when he did not return it was presumed that he would stay all night. His absence therefore, aroused no suspicion. The message of the police was the first information the brothers had of their father's death. At the undertaking rooms they positively identified the remains as those of their father.
