Carol Castor Brooks, 62, died Monday, May 1, 2017, surrounded by her family after a long battle with breast cancer. Born April 10, 1955, in Fort Wayne, IN, Carol was the youngest daughter of Ken and Frieda Castor. With lifelong friends Vicki and Julie and her sister, Honey, Carol's spirit started getting her into mischief at an early age, continuing to find fun and joy for all throughout her entire life. She married John Brooks on January 13, 1979, and they shared an unparalleled love for 38 years. While she worked as a chemist and as a part-time florist, her family was her focus, dedicating her time to raising her children, Margi and Bob, as well as her nieces and nephews. Her love of her family was central to her core, and she relished the time spent with them. Carol was a true friend to many, and her family is grateful for the support and love her many friends gave her throughout her life. She had an independent spirit, a beautiful smile, a contagious laugh, a strong and vocal opinion, a cooking skill beyond compare, a dirty sense of humor, an iron will, and the most loving heart. She enjoyed traveling the world with her family, dancing to hip-hop music, baking the best cookies and pies ever, exploring the flora and fauna of Indiana and Montana, and reading a good book. She will be missed dearly, and she wished to share this thought: Every day is blessed. Find joy in each day that God has set out for you. Dwell on the moments of joy that we have shared. I have been blessed with a lifetime of these moments because of you and the abundance of Christ's love. Please make others as happy as you have made me. She is survived by her husband, John; children, Robert and Margaret Brooks (Barry Rochford); siblings, Ken (Sandy) Castor, Jim (Chris) Castor, and Beth Regedanz; aunt and uncle, Barbara and Dave Kiracofe; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. CLEMENT CHARLES MADDEN, 83, of Fort Wayne, passed away peacefully on the evening of Sunday, April 30, 2017, with family by his side. He was born August 24, 1934 in Chicago, IL. He was the son of James and Gertrude Madden. Clem grew up in Chicago, Boston and Nutley, NJ, where he attended Queen of Peace High School. There, he met the love of his life and future wife, Maureen. After high school, Clem served four years in the Navy. Upon his return Clem and Maureen were married on May 11, 1957 in Nutley, NJ, where they settled and started their family. While working several jobs and helping raise their six children, Clem took night classes at Seton Hall University earning a Bachelor's Degree in accounting in 1962. He then began his career with ITT. Eventually Clem's career with ITT brought the family to Fort Wayne in 1972, where they made their home for the past 45 years. He retired from ITT Avionics Division in 1990 after 33 years. Clem and Maureen were members of St. Vincent's Catholic Church, Clem was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend. In their retirement, Clem and Maureen enjoyed traveling, golfing, and spending time with their many friends in Fort Wayne. Clem took great joy in designing and building their dream home in 2002, down to the last detail. Clem was a gifted artist and craftsman. He loved working in his wood shop. For decades, he drew his wife hand-illustrated Christmas and birthday cards each year. Those who knew Clem know that he was a force to be reckoned with- unwavering, passionate, and strong. He was fiercely intelligent with a quick wit, and a lifelong learner with an always-inquisitive mind. Clem relished nothing more than a lively discussion, of which many were had with his family and friends around his kitchen table, over a nightcap. Clem's vast repertoire of stories, always a mix of salty and sweet, will be sorely missed by his family and friends. Clem was a man of deep devotion to his faith, his values, his family, his friends, and above all, to his beloved wife Maureen. Clem and Maureen were true partners- they sustained one another through periods of profound loss and hardship, but despite that, built a life together of much joy and contentment. They were married for nearly 60 years, and Clem passed away exactly one year to the day after we lost Maureen. Undoubtedly, they are finally together again, sharing a laugh and a memory. Clem is survived by four of his children, William (Kathi) Madden of Fort Wayne, Kathleen Gilbert of Chehalis, WA, Jeanne (Mark) Durkin of Atlanta, GA., and Thomas (Julie) Madden of Seattle, WA. Also surviving are his brothers, James (Marie) Madden and Robert (Kathleen) Madden; his grandchildren William (Jennifer) Madden Jr., Robert Gilbert Jr., Michael (Lily) Madden, Sean (Melanie) Madden, Maureen (Matthew) Durkin Regan, Annie (Andre) Durkin Rivera, Daniel Madden, and Jackson Madden; and great-grandchildren, Avah Madden, Adalynn Madden, Cooper Madden, Nicholas Gilbert, and Arthur Madden. He was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Madden, his wife, Maureen Madden, and two of their beloved sons, Michael and Daniel. Funeral Service will be 3:00 pm Monday, May 8, 2017, at D.O. McComb and Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home 1320 E. Dupont Rd Fort Wayne, IN with calling hours two hours prior.

He attended Mennonite Seminary in Chicago, and held numerous positions at Pleasant Oaks Mennonite church through the years, including as S.S. teacher and deacon. Not only did he help build the Pleasant Oaks church building, he was a faithful member from its first service on Palm Sunday, 1965 to its closure in November of 2009. From 1951 through 1958, J.O. was instrumental in the building and development of Camp Friedenswald, a Mennonite-affiliated church camp near Cassopolis, MI, and was the camp's first on-site director/manager. It was there he met his wife, Leona, as she was the camp nurse. From there, they returned to the Middlebury farm, and he dedicated his remaining years to innovative and progressive farming, eventually being awarded with the Elkhart County Farm Family of the Year in 1982, the Indiana Prairie Farmer Master Farmer Award in 1989 and in 1996, the Elkhart County Conservation Farmer of the Year. He served as a Board Director for the Elkhart County Farm Bureau Credit Union for 17 years. Always a thinker and planner, he held a patent for a turkey loader, and was a seeker of the truth, in awe of the Creator and forever thankful to God for being his 'silent partner' in his farming career and life. His memoirs of significant events, that were signs of God's guidance through his career and life, were also put into writing to be passed on. "Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." John 8:32
