Junior E. Adelsperger

UNION CITY, IND---Junior E. Adelsperger, 65, of Route 3, died Saturday afternoon in Crystal's Country Home, Parker City, Ind., following an extended illness. He was a member of the board of directors of the Union City Body Company, Inc from 1955 until the time of his retirement from that position in 1981. A native of Fostoria, Ohio he was born Oct. 30 1917, son of the late W.E. and Myrtle (Zimmerman) Adelsperger. He was owner and operator of Central Garage Inc, Union City, many years prior to serving as parts and service manager of Union City Body Company, Inc. Mr. Adelsperger was a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church……(unable to read) , and served one term as a school board member of the West Side School Corp. Survivors include his widow, Elizabeth; three daughters, Janet E. Rash, Hampton Virginia, Kathryn A. Tsai, Norfolk, Va., and Barbara A. Huffman, Centerville, Ohio; one son James D. Adelsperger, Hanover, Pa.; five grandchildren; one step granddaughter; one sister, Mrs. Charles (Dorothy) Munger, Indianapolis, Ind., and one brother William L. Adelsperger, Greenville, Ohio; nieces and nephews. He also was preceded in death by one grandson. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Frazer-Timmons and Brooks Funeral Home with the Rev. David Turnbull officiating. Burial will follow in Union City Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. There will be an Elks Lodge of Sorrow at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. The family requests memorial contributions be given to Hospice of Darke County, 748 Chestnut St, Greenville, Ohio 45331.

Myrtle (Zimmerman) Adelsperger

Myrtle Zimmerman Adelsperger, 77, Route One Union City, Ind., a former Fostorian died in Union City Memorial Hospital at 10 a.m. Friday after a brief illness. She was born July 2, 1894, in Cedarville, Ind. To Charles and Hattie (Trease) Zimmerman, moving to Fostoria at an early age. She married Wenner E. Adelsperger in Fostoria on June 4, 1913. During their residence in Fostoria, Ms. Adelsperger managed the Atlas Corp. He is presently chairman of the board at the Union City Body Works. They were married for 58 years. Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter Mrs. Charles (Dorothy) Munger of Indianapolis, Ind., nine grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Mrs. Harold E. Drake of Fostoria is a sister-in-law. The body is at the Frazer Funeral Home in Union City where services are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Sunday, with burial in Union City Cemetery.

Dora Marie (Magley) Aughenbaugh

Mrs. Dora Marie Aughenbaugh, 77, Fort Wayne, a native of Decatur, died at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Fort Wayne, following a stroke suffered in January. The daughter of John C. and Bernice H. Peterson-Magley, she was born Oct. 25, 1903. She was a former school teacher in Adams County and taught at several schools for five years; 1920-24. She retired from the Fort Wayne works of the General Electric Co. in 1968 after 21 years of service. Mrs. Aughenbaugh was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Survivors include two sons, John D. and Philip E., both of Fort Wayne; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; one brother, John Robert Magley, of near Warsaw, also survives. Two brothers, Charles Herbert, and Cal "Bud" Magley, and one sisters, Mrs. H. Florence Breiner, are deceased. Friends may call at the D.O. McComb Lakeside Park Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 p.m., where services will be held Monday at 1 p.m., Rev. Armin Bizer officiating. Burial will be in the Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne.

Ralph I. Badiac, 78, died at 3:13 a.m. Thursday at Parkview Memorial Hospital. Mr. Badiac was a retired farmer and was a Washington Township firefighter for 21 years. Lula O. (Tindall) Baumgardner

Lula Baumgardner dies at hospital
Mrs. Lula O. Baumgardner, 86, of 3404 Diplomat Drive, Fort Wayne, and a native of Adams county, died at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Lutheran hospital. She had been seriously ill for the past four months. She was born in Blue Creek township April 17, 1886, a daughter of Henry and Sarah Preshew-Tindall, and was married to George W. Baumgardner Feb. 27, 1903. Her husband preceded her in death July 28, 1954. She resided in Windermere, Fla., for 25 years prior to returning to Fort Wayne three years ago. Mrs. Baumgardner was a member of the Windermere Baptist church at Windermere, Fla. Surviving are one son, Herbert Baumgardner of Fort Wayne; three daughters, Mrs. Bessie Goller of the Lutheran home, Fort Wayne, Mrs. Darrell (Wilma) Clouse of Decatur route 6, and Mrs. Max (Myrtle) Putman of Rockford, O., route 3; one sister, Mrs. Bertha Hamrick of Decatur, two brothers, Elmer Tindall of Decatur, and John Tindall of Fort Wayne; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Two sons are deceased. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Zwick funeral home, with Rev. Paul Currie officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial park in Fort Wayne. HUNTINGTON, July 12 - Short funeral services were held at the Kilty Funeral Home Friday afternoon for John Joseph Beemler, who died early Friday morning shortly after his birth at the Huntington County Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Beemler. Lorenz C. Bleeke

Young Monroeville man crash victim
Lorenz C. Bleeke, 23, a resident of Monroeville route 2, was killed instantly at 6:55 p.m. Sunday in the collision of two vehicles six mile north of Butler on Ind. highway 101. Mrs. Peggy Kuhn, 29, of Angola, driver of the other vehicle, and two of her children were injured. Bleeke, son of Mr. and Mrs. Erich Bleeke of Monroeville route 2, died at the scene of the crash. Death was due to massive head injuries. Dave Gingerich, deputy of the DeKalb county police department said Bleeke was southbound on 101 and swerved left of center, striking the Kuhn pickup truck nearly head on. Indiana state police and the Butler police department aided in the investigation. Mrs. Kuhn was admitted to the Cameron hospital at Angola for treatment of scalp and knee laceration. Kimberly, 7, and Mitchel, 5, children of Mrs. Kuhn, suffered minor facial and knee laceration and were also taken to the Angola hospital.
Rites Wednesday
The accident victim was born in Fort Wayne Feb. 20, 1949, a son of Erich and Flora Franke Bleeke, who reside on Monroeville route 2. He was a former employee of Yost Companies in Decatur and has been employed by Brandstator Aluminum Products Co. of Fort Wayne. The young man was to have been married next Saturday Aug. 5 to Miss Linda Coughlin of Antwerp. O. Bleeke was a member of the St. John Lutheran church at Flatrock. He graduated from the Hoagland high school in 1965. Surviving in addition to the parents are two brothers, Harold Bleeke of Monroeville, route 1, and Rev. Robert Bleeke, pastor of the Immanuel Lutheran church at Red Wing, Minn. One sister and one brother are deceased. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday at the Zwick funeral home, and at 2 p.m. at the St. John Lutheran church at Flatrock, with Rev. Donald E. Frank officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. today until time of the service.

Herber C. Brenneman, 83, Fort Wayne, a dispatcher for Berne Furniture Co. before his retirement, and the father of Stanley (Stan) Brenneman of Berne, died at 10:20 p.m. Tuesday in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. He resided in Fort Wayne for 18 years and formerly was a dairy farmer in the Elkhart area. Surviving are his wife, Elsie; a daughter, Ruth E. James Buckingham

New Albany, Ind., June 6 - James Buckingham, 45 years old, returned to the home of his mother, Mrs. Nancy Buckingham, from Bedford where he had been working, last night. The family were absent, and when they returned he was found dead of heart disease. He had been in ill health.

Miss Jane Chapman

Miss Jane Chapman, a farmer, aged fifty years, residing eight miles northwest of Mitchell, mysteriously disappeared from her home last Sunday and Tuesday her clothing was found at the water's edge of a pond on the place. The pond was dragged and her dead body recovered. She had evidently drowned herself in a fit of insanity, worrying over a payment soon to be made on her land.

Bluffton man killed in Ohio
Edward E. Clifton, 44, of Bluffton, was killed at 7:40 p.m. Wednesday when his auto jumped the median on the westbound ramp leading from U. S. 224 to U. S. 30 at the Van Wert bypass. The Ohio state patrol reported the Clifton car traveled about 440 feet along the guard rail after jumping the median. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Mary Florence Kreigh Copeland, 81, of Decatur, formerly of Fort Wayne, died at 5:55 a.m. Friday in Adams County Memorial Hospital, Decatur. Born in Wells County, she lived in Fort Wayne most of her life and was formerly employed at Fort Wayne Tailoring Co. She was the widow of James. Local man's sister dies at Fort Wayne
Mrs. Mary Ann Dubsky, of Salisbury, Md., sister of John (Tim) Kelley of Decatur, died Thursday at the home of her father, Clarence Kelley, 522 Kinsmoor avenue, Fort Wayne, where she had been visiting. She was a native of Bluffton and a former resident of Fort Wayne, moving to Maryland 24 years ago. Mrs. Dubsky was a member of St. Francis Catholic church in Salisbury. Surviving in addition to the father and brother are her husband, Warren Dubsky; eight children at home, James, John, William, Richard, Robert, Josephine, Katharine and Margaret; and three sisters, Mrs. Catherine McGill of Indianapolis, Mrs. Margaret Liechty of Berne, and Mrs. Nancy McElhatten of San Raphael, Calif. The body will be sent from the Tom Mungovan funeral home to the Halloway funeral home in Salisbury, Md., where services and burial will be held Monday. MILO J. EGLY DIES IN EAST - FUNERAL FOR NATIVE OF BERNE IS ON TUESDAY P.M.
Milo J. Egly, 50, native of Berne and a former resident of Fort Wayne and Woodburn, died at Bellevue, Pa., Saturday morning of heart disease in a hospital in that city. He moved to Pennsylvania from Fort Wayne about 25 years ago and was employed by a railroad company as a secretary to the general manager of the Pennsylvania railroad. The decedent was a son of Jacob and Lydia Mosser Egly here, both deceased. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Clara Miller Egly; one son, John Egly, student at Tri-State college at Angola; one daughter, Dorothy Egly of Glendale, Calif., and the following sisters: Mrs. Ellen Ulrich and Mrs. Fannie Kopp of Peoria, Ill., Mrs. Emma Oyer of Gridley, Ill., Mrs. Mary Moser of Woodburn and one brother, Sam, of southeast of town. Edward C. Feller, 58, brother of Rev. William C. Rosa E. (Feasby) Fensler

Mrs. Rosa E. Fensler, 87, of Convoy, died at 10:25 a. m. Thursday in Van Wert County Hospital. Mrs. Fensler was born in Tully Township Dec. 9, 1884, the daughter of William and Anna (Kirk) Feasby. She married Gilbert F. Fensler on July 14, 1904. He died on Nov. 11, 1953. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Floyd (Gladys) Barkley, Mrs. Bernard (Wilma) Black, Mrs. Don (Ruby) Lare and Mrs. Ward (Lera) Crabtree, all of Convoy; fours sons, Lester of Convoy, Floyd of Indianapolis, Herbert of Orlando, Fla., and Russell of Fort Wayne; four brothers, Joshua Feasby of Fort Wayne, Willis Feasby of Monroeville, and Lester and Joseph Feasby of Van Wert; a sister, Mrs. Frista Sorgen of Berne; 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Two sisters and two brothers are deceased. Mrs. Fensler was a member of the Countryside Chapel United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Sunday in the church with the Rev. George D. Fogel

George D. Fogel, 65, was found dead at his farm home, south of Ari in Eel River Township, Allen County, yesterday. A lifelong resident of Eel River Township, Mr. Fogel had worked at the Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Plant at Auburn and at International Harvester Co. during World War II. In later years he ran a sawmill and was a farmer. He was a member of the Old Time Threshers Association. His wife, Kathryn, died in 1966. Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Earl Richards, R. R. 3, Wolcottville, Mrs. Ann Goodrich, Liberty, and Mrs. John Dehnert, Fort Wayne. Services will be in the Sheets Funeral Home, Churubusco, at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, the Rev. Miss Helen Freeman

Helen Freeman, 82, 517 West Fort Wayne St., Warsaw, was found dead Sunday morning at her residence. The daughter of Charles and Margaret (Elder) Freeman, she was born Sept. 23, 1905, in Warsaw and had been a lifetime resident of the Warsaw area. For many years she had been employed at United Telephone Co. and later worked at Water Utilities until her retirement. Miss Freeman was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Warsaw. Cousins and second cousins are her only survivors. One brother preceded her in death. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, with Dr. Howard Smith officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Funeral Saturday
INDIANAPOLIS (UPI)-Funeral services here and in LaPorte for former Gov. Harold W. Handley were announced today. Handley, who died Wednesday, was eulogized by Democrats and fellow Republicans as "a fine American and truly dedicated public servant". Services will be at noon Saturday in the 1 st Meridian Heights Presbyterian church here, with additional services 5 p.m. Saturday in LaPorte Presbyterian Church, a spokesman for Flanner & Buchanan mortuaries said. Friends may call at the firm's Fall Creek mortuary here between noon and 9 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte.

A. Garland Hardy

A. Garland Hardy dies suddenly last evening
A. Garland Hardy, 61, prominent Ball State University administrator, and Muncie community leader, died unexpectedly of a heart attack Sunday evening at his home, 1716 North Tilltson, Muncie. He had a heart condition for some time but his death was sudden. His wife, the former Miss Mildred Worthman, was a native of Decatur and former teacher in the Decatur high school, and a sister of Robert Worthman, Bellmont high school athletic director. Mr. Hardy was well known in Decatur, having visited here many times, and also had spoken at a number of Lions club meetings here. A native of Rensselaer, Mr. Hardy received both his bachelor's and master's degrees from Ball State. He served in the U.S. Army medical corps from 1942 to 1946. He was elementary school principal at Foresman from 1931 to 1942, and was principal of the Rensselaer elementary school from 1947 to 1956, and had been at Ball State since 1956. He was a member and former president of the Muncie police and fire commission, and was named president of the Delaware county sheriff's merit board commission when it was first organized. Mr. Hardy served as district governor of Lions International from 1959 to 1961, and was president of the board of Boy Scouts at Muncie in 1963-64, receiving the Silver Arrow award. He was a past master of Brook Masonic lodge of Newton county, and a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian church of Muncie, serving as elder and a Sunday school teacher. Surviving in addition to his wife are one sister, Mrs. David Callender of Tipton; and four brothers, Norman and William Hardy of St. Joe, Mich., John Hardy of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Tom Hardy of Coral-by-the-Sea, Calif. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Meeks funeral home in Muncie. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Ruby "Marsh" Hart, 84, died at 8:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Anne Home. A Wells County native, Mrs. Hart had spent most of her life in Fort Wayne. She and her husband, Edward, had owned several restaurants in Fort Wayne and Hamilton Lake. Surviving are two stepdaughters, Marieta Jacobs of Silver Springs, Md., and Kathleen Kickrehm of Davenport, Iowa; two half sisters, Rosalene Huschy of Monroe and Irene Flora of Bluffton and one stepbrother, Harvey Teeple of Berne. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Mungovan & Sons Memorial Chapel, where friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. There will be a memorial Mass at 5 p.m. Friday in Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Chapel. Burial will be in Catholic Cemetery. STEVEN DALE HAVER
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at E. Harper and Son Funeral Home in New Haven for Steven Dale Haver, 34, Fort Wayne, who was killed in a car accident in Steuben County around 9 p.m. Tuesday. He was the brother of Terry Haver of Monroeville. Mr. Haver was riding in a car driven by another brother, Richard Haver, Jr., 38, Fort Wayne, when the vehicle missed a turn on a northern Steuben County roadway and the auto ended up in a pond at the Holiday House Resort, near Fremont. Death was due to drowning. The victim of the tragedy was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Surviving are a son, Steven, Jr.; a daughter, Stephani; a stepdaughter, Christie Haver; and a stepson, Craig Haver, all of Joplin, Mo.; his parents Mr. and Mrs. Richard L. Haver, Sr., Fort Wayne; three brothers, Terry, Monroeville; Timothy, Denver, and Richard, Jr., Fort Wayne; four sisters, Shirley Bendit, South Bend, Pamela Tinker, New Haven, Barbara Bretal, Phoenix, and Rebecca Buttenbach, Fort Wayne; and a grandmother, Ruth Buckland, Fort Wayne. William E. Hethcote

William E. (Heavy) Hethcote, 71, route 2, Geneva, a retired lumber company employee and a longtime resident of Muncie, died at 9:15 a.m. today in Jay County Hospital, Portland. A member of First United Methodist Church in Geneva, and the VFW and Lions Club, also of Geneva, he was employed at Kirbywood Lumber Co. in Muncie. Born in Kokomo on Oct. 2, 1912, he was the son of Henrietta Cress, and was married to Harriet Moore, on May 4, 1941; she survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. J. Michael (Jean) Duffy, Morton, Ill.; two sisters, Mrs. Elvin (Marie) Baker, Indianapolis, and Mrs. Hazel Hutson, Fort Wayne. Noah Hines

Dublin, Ind., Dec. 10 -- Dublin is having an epidemic of measles, there being about 40 cases in the town and vicinity at the present time, and one death has occurred. The UB Church had to close its protracted meeting on account of the epidemic. The death was that of Oscar Hines, aged 24. He was the oldest son of Noah Hines, a prosperous farmer, living half a mile south of this place.

William G. Hoelle, 84, died Wednesday in his home. A lifelong Fort Wayne resident, Mr. Hoelle retired in 1966 after 30 years with General Electric Co. Mary Ann (Parrett) Hopkins

Mary Ann Hopkins, relict of Hon. John S. Hopkins, and the oldest inhabitant but one of Evansville died on Saturday. She belonged to a family noted for its social and political influence throughout the southern part of the state and was beloved for her many deeds of kindness and charity. Her father, Rev. Robert Parrett will be remembered by the early settlers as being the first minister of the gospel in Evansville and was well known in Ohio, Illinois and this state. The brothers and sisters of Mrs. Hopkins were: Rev. John W. Parrett of the Northwestern Indiana Conference; Rev. RM Parrett of Patoka, Ind.; Hon. WF Parrett, judge of the Vanderburg Circuit Court; Joseph B. Parrett, deceased; Maj. Robert Parrett of the One-hundred and 1st Indiana Volunteers, killed at Vicksburg; Mrs. Sarah Reed, wife of Rev. Samuel Reed, deceased; Mrs. Martha Roberts, wife of Hon. Rufus Roberts, deceased; Mrs. Alvah Johnson of Evansville and Mrs. Union Bethell of Newburg. Mae E. (Hutker) Lantz

Mae E. Lantz, 88, Fort Wayne, formerly of Harlan and sister of Everett Hutker, Decatur, died at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday in Byron Health Center. A lifelong resident of Allen County, she was the widow of Albert Lantz who died in 1973. Survivors include one son, Jim, West Union, O.; three daughters, Marjorie Amstutz, Harlan; Margaret Gall, Martinsville; Katherine Arick, Englewood, Fla.; three brothers, Glen Hutker, Harlan; Everett Hutker, Decatur; Harmon Hutker, Terre Haute; three sisters, Garnet Gerig and Mabel Bailey, both of Harlan; Berdene Fouet, Coldwater, Mich.; and nine grandchildren. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Hockenmeyer Funeral Home, Harlan, with calling there from 3-9 p.m. Friday. An Eastern Star service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Scipio Cemetery, Allen County.

Muncie, Ind., Dec 10 - Mrs. Elizabeth Lee, aged 84 years, died last night as a result of a fall suffered several weeks ago. Thirty-four grandchildren and more than 25 great grandchildren survive.

Celeste B. Linton, 86, 11621 Yellow River Road, died Wednesday at a nursing home in Columbia City. A native of Fort Wayne, Mrs. Linton was a retired employee of Magnavox Co. Surviving are her husband, Alfred C.; and a niece, Mrs. Helen Moyer, Fort Wayne. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Mungovan & Sons Lakeside Chapel, where friends may call after 2 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Catholic Cemetery. A memorial Mass will be scheduled later in Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.

Lena (Habegger) Mazelin

Lena H. Mazelin, 86, Fayetteville, Tennessee, a Berne native, unexpectedly died last Wednesday at home. She was born in Berne on March 9, 1902 to Peter and Rosina Schwartz Habegger and married Jacob C. Mazelin on March 15, 1925. He died on January 9, 1966. Surviving are one son; one daughter; and 14 grandchildren. Six sisters and three brothers are deceased. Funeral and burial were held Saturday in Fayetteville.

Rites are planned for Mr. McKinney
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Ferguson-Lee funeral home in Bedford for Harold E. McKinney, 59, of Decatur route 4, who died at 8:04 a.m. Monday at the Adams county memorial hospital. Rev. Richard Kern will officiate, and burial will be in Cresthaven cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. today. Mr. McKinney was employed as a lineman until being severely injured in an accident while at work seven years ago. He was born in Lawrence county Aug. 25, 1913, a son of George and Mattie Ida Moran McKinney. He was a member of the F & AM lodge 48 at Delphi, and the Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Gallion; two daughters, Mrs. John Oberson of Jeffersonville, and Mrs. John Oehlenschlager of Monterey, Calif.; his mother, Mrs. Ida Mefford of Bedford; three sisters, Mrs. Clyde Chastain and Mrs. Harry Lavender of Bedford and Mrs. Herbert Simpson of Gary; one brother, Norman McKinney of Bedford; and five grandchildren. Ernest Meister

English, Ind., June 6 - Ernest Meister, 22 years old, fell between freight cars, losing his right leg and both hands and dying this morning. He refused to permit the surgeons to amputate his mangled limbs, saying that he would rather die than live in such a hopeless, crippled condition. His parents live in Shaffonal, Switzerland. He refused to give their address, requesting that they be not informed of his fate. He had hoped to save sufficient money this year to bring them to this country.

Henry Meyer

Funeral services for Henry Meyer, 76, former local resident, who died of heart disease Friday morning at his home in Anderson, will be held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock in Anderson. Burial will be in Lindenwood Cemetery here. The deceased was formerly a tailor here. Word of his death was received by a niece, Mrs. Henry F. Koenemann of 1401 Kentucky Avenue.

Ludolf 'Rudy' Meyer

Ludolf (Rudy) Meyer, 84, Rt. 1, Decatur (Bingen), a well-known Adams County resident, died at 1:50 p.m. Sunday at his residence. He had been in failing health for 10 years. He was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church and the Men's Club of the church. Rudy, as he was known to his friends, was a Standard Oil agent in Craigville from 1926-1932, and operated Meyer's Service Station in Bingen from 1932-1938; his son, Robert, now operates the station. He served 11 years with the State Department of conservation working in public relations, traveling throughout the Hoosier State giving talks. He also worked for the Phil L. Macklin Co. and the Schafer Wholesale Co. He was appointed to the state post by the late Gov. Henry Schricker. Born in Allen County on Feb. 20, 1898, he was the son of August and Marie Wiegmann-Meyer, and was married to Dorothy Eckhardt on Dec. 26, 1917; she died in September of 1966. He later married Justeen Bowman on Aug. 15, 1970, and she survives. Also surviving are two children, Robert, Rt. 1, Decatur; Mrs. Robert (Elenore) Kerr, Valparaiso; a stepson, Eugene Biotet; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Two sisters and one brother preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Zwick, Boltz & Jahn Funeral Home, with Rev. Luther E. Russert officiating. Burial will be in the Lindenwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon today.

Merritt T. Milliman

Merritt T. Milliman, 74, of 3901 Eastway Drive, died at 11 a.m. yesterday in the Veterans Hospital in Marion. Born in Fremont, Mich., Mr. Milliman lived in Fort Wayne for 50 years. He retired from International Harvester after 30 years employment there. He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Moose Lodge 1311 in Decatur, American Legion Post 37, St. Luke's Men's Club, and Truth Seekers' Club. He was a World War I veteran. Surviving are his wife, Florence E.; one son, Paul of Fort Wayne; one daughter, Mrs. Donna Pyles of Macomb, Ill.; three stepdaughters, Ms. Betty Poitres and Mrs. Wanda Ross, both of Fort Wayne, and Mrs. Jean Weilbaken of Cincinnati, Ohio; and 20 grandchildren. Friends may call at Mungovan and Sons South Chapel 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, the Rev. Richard T. Kraus officiating. Burial will be in Covington Memorial Gardens. American Legion Post 37 will conduct graveside services.

Diana S. Morgan, 47, Schenectady, N.Y., and a former resident of Fort Wayne, died at 2 p.m. Sunday in a Schenectady hospital after an automobile accident. Frank Morris, a young man about 20 years old, residing at Spencer, shot himself, accidentally on Saturday. He was loading his shotgun, to go hunting, when it was discharged, lodging a full load of shot in his temple and face. He is still living, but cannot recover. Father of city resident dies
Harold E. Nahrwold, 65, of Angola route 1, father of Mrs. Joy Moore of Decatur, died Monday morning at the Cameron hospital in Angola. He formerly resided in Allen county, and was retired from the International Harvester Co. Mr. Nahrwold was a member of the Zion Lutheran church at Bull Rapids. Surviving are his wife, Amy; a son, Carl Nahrwold of Fort Wayne; two daughters, Mrs. Luetta Bruns of Hartville, O., and Mrs. Joy Moore of Decatur; two brothers, Raymond Nahrwold of Cedarville, and Norman Nahrwold of New Haven; three sisters, Mrs. Velma Peck of New Haven, Mrs. Luella Bowman of Fort Wayne, and Mrs. Edna Harwood of Payson, Ariz.; and six grandchildren. Muncie, Ind., Dec 10 - Thomas Nolan, aged 38, accidentally fell into a fly wheel pit at the Whitely malleable iron works tonight, coming in contact with the wheel which was running 500 revolutions a minute. Both arms were torn off and his face and head crushed. He will die.

Mrs. Frieda A. Odom, 88, a resident of Huntington all her life, died Wednesday morning at her home, 726 Webster street, after an illness of 18 months. She was born in Huntington Sept. 12, 1883, and was married to Jesse J. Odom Nov. 12, 1949. Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, Harry L. Price of Hayward, Wis., and a stepson, Kenneth Barker of Decatur. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Robbins funeral home in Huntington, with Rev. Charles Lunkley officiating. ORLAND, July 12 - Funeral services for Charles Penix, 58, who died of a heart attack late yesterday at his home near here, will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. (CDT) at the Orland Methodist Church. John Pierce

Princeton, Ind., June 6 - While plowing in a corn field yesterday afternoon, John Pierce dropped dead of heart trouble. He was 60 years old and leaves a wife and several children. He was a member of the 58th Indiana Volunteers. A brother dropped dead recently of heart trouble.

James Polk

James Polk, a resident of Knox County for 80 years, died at his home near Vincennes last week. Mr. Polk was but two years of age when his father removed to Knox County from Kentucky, and was a member of a family noted for its many escapades with the Indians in the early history of the country. In 1782 his grandmother and four of her children were captured at Fort "Burnt Station," Kentucky by the Indiana and taken to Fort Detroit, then a British garrison. They were rescued by the grandfather in the following year, together with another child which was born shortly after the mother was carried into captivity.

Rushville, Ind., Dec 10 - David F. Priest, prominent in IORM, K of P and K of M circles and the proprietor of the omnibus business here for 12 years was buried at East Hill Cemetery today under the auspices of the lodges of which he was a member. He was 57 years old.

James Rash, 24, dies at hospital
James S. Rash, 24, of 4936 Old Maysville road, Fort Wayne, a former resident of Decatur, died at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Parkview memorial hospital. Mr. Rash, a veteran of the war in Vietnam was employed at B.F. Goodrich Co., and was also a student at the Purdue University, Fort Wayne campus. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart during his army service. He was a native of Fort Wayne but lived in Decatur for several years before 1969. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran church. Surviving are his wife, Martha; his parents, Mrs. and Mrs. Carl Rash of Decatur; a brother, Ted A. Rash of Fort Wayne; two sisters, miss Sandra Rash of Decatur, and Mrs. Richard Dailey of Craigville; the grandmothers, Mrs. Bertha Bohde of Fort Wayne, and Mrs. Joseph Rash of Decatur. Services were held Wednesday at Mungovan & Sons South Chapel for Angelic D. Sauers, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Sauers, of 615 Home avenue, Fort Wayne. Burial was in Concordia cemetery. The child died at 2:55 p.m. Tuesday at Lutheran hospital. The parents are members of Emmaus Lutheran church, and the father is employed at International Harvester Co. Surviving in addition to the parents are two brothers, Sean and William, the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Sauers of Decatur route 4, and Mr. and Mrs. William McBee of Fort Wayne; and the great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Don Miller of Fort Wayne.

HUNTINGTON, July 12 - Billy Wayne Schenkel died soon after birth early Friday morning to Mr. and Mrs. Harry Schenkel at their home. Surviving are the parents and four sisters, Catherine Mae, Helen Jean, Donna Marie and Carolyn Rose, all at home. Funeral services for Christopher H. Schulz, 66, 815 Kensington Boulevard, who died late Thursday night at St. Joseph's Hospital where he had been a patient since June 10, will be held Monday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at Klaehn & Sons' Funeral Home, Rev. Fred Wambsganss officiating. Burial will be in Concordia Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may view the body at the funeral home. Mr. Schulz was an active member of the Democratic Party. He was associated with the Jocquel-Schulz Company for many years until his retirement several years ago. He was a member of Emmaus Lutheran Church. Hattie M. Schwartz

Hattie M. Schwartz, 87, died Friday in Brighton Nursing Home. A native of Noble County, she was a retired schoolteacher. A sister, Lela M. Dunten of Huntertown, survives. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at D. O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home. Friends may call from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, where Order of the Eastern Star services will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Lindenwood Cemetery.

Paul B. Shaffer

Paul B. Shaffer, 69, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Tuesday in a hospital there. An Indiana native, Mr. Shaffer was retired from General Electric Co. in Fort Wayne, where he had been employed as an engineer 42 years. Surviving are his wife, Esther L.; a son, Jay D., Milwaukee; four daughters, Mrs. Beverly Grote, Fort Wayne, Mrs. Carolyn Such, Indianapolis, Mrs. Elizabeth Bartels, Oak Park, Ill.; three sisters, Mrs. June Leslie and Mrs. Gladys Holmes, both of Georgetown, Texas, and Mrs. Roberta Jean Quinn, Delphi. Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Chapel of Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Port Charlotte. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and to 8 p.m. Thursday at Port Charlotte Chapel of Robertson-Schlossberg Funeral Home. Burial will be in Port Charlotte.

Daniel Singer

Greensburg, Ind., Dec 10 - Daniel Singer, aged 83, an old resident of Westport, was instantly killed at that place tonight by the south-bound express leaving here at 4:05. The engineer noticed the man walking on the track but as he was near the depot he expected him to step on the platform out of danger. Singer probably failed to hear the train until too late to save himself.

Carl D. Smith

Carl D. Smith, 82, route 1, Pierceton, a retired farmer and a native of Adams County, died Wednesday at 12:12 p.m. at Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne. He moved from Adams County in 1946. Born here on April 10, 1903, he was the son of Simon and Martha Shank-Smith and was married on June 28, 1925, in Adams County, to Mabel Bolinger; she survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Marilyn) Harris, Fort Wayne; four sons, Gale and Eddie, both of Warsaw; Arthur, Matagorda, Tex.; Donnie Smith, Pierceton; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; four sisters, Florene Garrison, Fort Wayne; Lucy Arthur, Albany; Esther Burn, Kendall Park, N.J.; Ilene Spronger, Constantine, Mich. Five brothers and two sisters are deceased. Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-8 p.m. Friday. Memorials are to the Cancer Society.

Vera M. (Blossom) Spalding

Mrs. Vera M. Spalding, 64, 3754 Clifton Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio, former Richmond resident, died Wednesday night in Bethesda Hospital Cincinnati. She was a registered nurse and a graduate of Bethesda Hospital School of Nursing. She was a member of the Bethesda Hospital Alumnae Association. She was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. Surviving are her husband Floyd Spalding; one daughter Mrs. Susan Holdgreiwe of Cincinnati; a son Keith Kinsey, Dana Point, Calif.; one brother, Dr. Paul Blossom of Richmond, and five grandchildren. She was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. John C. Blossom of Richmond. Funeral services for Mrs. Spalding will be held here at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Doan and Johnson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery. She lived in Fort Wayne most of her life and died at 1:15 p.m. Thursday in a Fort Wayne nursing home. INFANT DIES AT FORT WAYNE
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning for the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Carey H. Stewart of the Butler road, Fort Wayne, who died at 5 a.m. Tuesday, about an hour after his birth at eh Methodist hospital. Surviving besides the parents are a brother, David, and the grandparents, Mrs. Edna Stauffer of Berne and Rev. J. M. Stewart of Fort Wayne. Julius M. Strass

Former Citizen Dies in East
Word was received here last week announcing the death of Julius M. Strass, formerly of Monroeville, at his home in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The remains arrived at Fort Wayne Monday and was taken to the Klaehn & Son Funeral Home from which services were held Monday afternoon at 2:00 pm with burial in Lindenwood Cemetery. With the death of Julius, the last of the J. M. Strass family has passed to the Great Beyond. A number of our local citizens were at Fort Wayne attending the funeral.

Arthur Sweat, Sr., 76, Dillon, South Carolina, died there Tuesday afternoon. Among survivors are a daughter, Clara Brock, and a son, Horace Sweat, of Decatur; four other sons, Arthur, Jr., of Florida and Todd, Donald and Harvel, all of (cut off) ...Lane of Myrtle Beach, S. William Walter

Wabash - William Walter, a brakeman in the employ of the Wabash Railroad was probably fatally injured at Andrews on Monday evening. He was assisting in switching a cut of cars and was hanging to the side of a freight car when he was struck by a switch stand and knocked off, falling under the wheels. Both legs were cut off at the knees.

John Wasson

Milton, Ind., Dec 10 - John Wasson, an old citizen of this place, died today. He was the father of H.E. Wasson, traveling auditor of the Missouri Pacific Railroad and of EC Wasson, the local town marshal. His widow and daughter survive. He was a member of the Friends Church and IORM.

Former teacher in county dies
Mrs. Ben Wertz, a sister of Glen Potts of Decatur, died Monday in Loveland, Colo., after an illness of several months. The former Mary Ethel Potts, she taught school in Adams county for 10 years She was also a registered nurse. Surviving in addition to the brother are the husband; three sisters, Mrs. Carl Schug of Berne, Mrs. Carl Wittung of Rockford, O., and Mrs. Violet Reiner of Terre Haute; and several nieces and nephews. Leona (Scheele) Wolfe

Leona Wolfe, 83, Rt. 1, Stanton Lake, Leesburg, died at 4:30 a.m. Sunday at Goshen General Hospital. She had been in failing health for several months. A native of Wisket, Austria, she was born Sept. 9, 1904, to Thomas and Anna (Misel) Scheele. On Oct. 28, 1922, she married Alfert Wolfe, who died Aug. 14, 1973. Mrs. Wolfe had moved to the Leesburg area three years ago from Fort Wayne. She had retired from Knitting Mills, General Hosiery Co., Fort Wayne. One daughter, Mrs. Betty Schidler, Leesburg; two grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren survive. One sister preceded her in death. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw. Burial will be in Hillcrest cemetery, Pierceton. Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ada I. Yoder, 94, died at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday at Fort Wayne Health Care Center. She was a native of Lafayette. Surviving are two sons, George E., of Fort Wayne, and Charles of Auburn; a daughter, Helen Radke of Fort Wayne; and two sisters, Minnie Halsema and Mary Miller, both of Lafayette. Edward Young

Edward Young Funeral To Be Held Wednesday
Funeral services for Edward Young, 63, former Fort Wayne hotel manager, will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the home in Decatur, and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church there. The body will be brought to Mungovan & Sons' Mortuary after the funeral and may be viewed there until 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Burial win the Catholic Cemetery here. Mr. Young came to this city in 1925 and remained manager of the Kindler Hotel until October 1, 1937, when he bought the Rice Hotel in Decatur. He owned that hotel until his death and resided in the hotel. Mr. Young died of myocarditis Sunday at 2:15 a.m. at his home after a six-moth illness. He was born in Huntington. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Genevieve Mungovan Young; four daughters, Ann, Betty, Carolyn and Dorothy, all at home; a stepson, Maurice Kindler, of Decatur; a sister, Mrs. Phillip Pfeiffer, of this city, and a brother(rest is missing) [buried Catholic Cemetery; Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana]

Dr. Edward B. Zier

New Albany, Ind., Dec 10 - Dr. Edward B. Zier, president of the Zier Boiler Company of this city, died last night at his home in Minneapolis, Minn., aged 47 years. He was a graduate of a medical college at Vienna, Austria and located in Minneapolis about 20 years ago. He left a large estate. The company in this city of which he was president has been under the management of his brother, Councilman Michael Zier for many years.

COLUMBIA CITY, July 12 - Mrs. Fern Arvilla Zumbrun, 34, of Thorn Creek Township died at 6:30 p.m. today at the Lutheran Hospital at Fort Wayne after an illness of 11 days with uremia. Surviving are her husband, Owen R. Zumbrun; five children, Jean, Annabelle, Betty, Lois and Robert, all at home; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Quinn of Smith Township, and one brother.
