Services for Nelda Mae Baker, 27, 71 N. Holmes will be at 2 pm. Friday in Royster & Askin Mortuary with burial in Lincoln Memory Gardens. She died Monday in her home. Born in Shelby County, Mrs. Baker had lived in Indianapolis 22 years and had worked 9 years at Herff-Jones Co jewelry firm. She was a member of the Christian Church at Holton. Survivors are the mother, Mrs. Ivan D. Ticen; her father, Julius Meisberger; three brothers, Martin, James and Junior Meisberger and two step brothers.

Kenneth C. Beard, 77, died Sunday evening at Parkview Memorial Hospital. A native of Fort Wayne, Mr. Beard retired in 1973 after 27 years at Fort Dodge Laboratories, where he was branch manager. Surviving are his wife, Bessie; three daughters, Nancy Rice of Fort Wayne, Suzanne Hinzy of Jamestown, and Jane of Indianapolis; one son, John of Battle Ground; two stepdaughters, Virginia Key of Swayzee and Mary William of Largo, Fla; three sisters, Lucille Hieber, Catherine Hunsberger and Emma Kreger, all of Fort Wayne; one brother, Howard, of Roanoke; and 12 grandchildren. Services at 10:30 am Wednesday at Klaehn's Wayne Street Chapel, 420 W Wayne St. with calling there from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm today. Burial in Lindenwood Cemetery. Memorials to the March of Dimes.

Greta F. Blossom, 90, 3754 Clifton in Ave, Cincinnati, Ohio, formerly of Richmond, died Nov 10 in Cincinnati. She lived with a cousin Suzanne Holdgreiwe. She was a native of Elwood and formerly lived at 100 South Ninth St. She was a graduate of Bethesda School of Nursing in Cincinnati and had been a nurse at the Bethesda Hospital for many years. She was a former member of the First Christian Church in Richmond. Survivors include cousins and one aunt, Golda M. Blossom of New Paris, Ohio. Funeral service for Greta F. Blossom was in Cincinnati and burial was in Earlham Cemetery.

Golda M. Blossom, 85, formerly of 407 E. Cherry St., New Paris, Ohio, died Monday Aug. 2, at Spring Grove Care Center. She was a native of Preble County, Ohio, and had lived in Richmond most of her life. She was a registered nurse and operated a foster home for many years. She was the widow of Dr. John C. Blossom. Survivors include one daughter, Luanne Alderson of New Paris; one grandson; two great-grandchildren; one niece. She was preceded in death by three step-children including Dr. Paul Blossom. Service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug 5 at The Jones Funeral Home, with the Rev. Don Boyer, of the New Paris Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery. There will be no public calling.

Estelle Cline Blossom, 88, 620 S. W. 21st St., died today, Aug 13, at Reid Hospital. She was a native of Delaware County, and lived in Angola 35 years, where she had taught school 29 years. She had lived in Richmond since 1966. She was a member of the First Christian Church, the A. U. chapter of P. E. O., Indiana State Retired Teachers Association, a former member of the American Association of University Women, and Rho Chapter of Psi Iota Xi. She was a graduate of Oldenburg Academy, Mary Grove College and the University of Cincinnati. Her husband, Dr. Paul W. Blossom, died in 1982. Survivors include one son, Thomas D. Cline of Pittsburgh, Pa., two stepsons, John Blossom of Hobe Sound, Fla.; one stepdaughter, Patricia Smith of Brookville, three granddaughters, 10 step-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 16, at the Riggle-Walterman mortuary, with the Rev. Dixie Miller officiating. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery. Dr. Paul Blosssom dies in Arizona
Paul W. Blossom, 78, formerly of 620 S. W. H?? St., died Monday morning in Arizona. He was born in Losantville and moved to Richmond in 1910. He attended Earlham College and earned his medical degree at the University of Cincinnati. He practiced medicine in Richmond from 1928 until he retired in 1986. He was a member of the Wayne-Union and Indiana State Medical societies, the Order of DeMolay, the American Academy of General Practice and the National Association of Family Doctors. He also was a member of the First Christian Church. Funeral arrangements are pending at Riggle-Waltermann Funeral Home.

Ned Eugene Breininger, 72, of Fort Wayne, co-owner of Cobbie Shop, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, at home. The Mark Center, Ohio, native was also former owner of the Joyce-Shelby shoe store in Glenbrook Square. He retired in February. He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 47 and a World War II Army Air Corps veteran. Surviving are his wife, Patricia J.; a daughter, Sharyl Paul of Fort Wayne; sons, Terry and Timothy L., both of Fort Wayne; a brother, Byron D. of Sun City Center, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his sister, Iris Mann. Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Concordia Lutheran Church, 4245 Lake Ave., with calling one hour before services. Calling is also from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road. Burial will be in Concordia Cemetery Gardens. Death Claims Nora Butler - Former Decatur Woman is Death's Victim at Fremont, Ind. Residence
Word was received by residents and friends here today of the death of Mrs. Nora Butler, 58, wife of Mel Butler, who died at her home at Fremont, Indiana, at midnight, Tuesday. The cause of death was not stated in the message. Mrs. Butler was born in this city and lived here until eight years ago when she moved with her husband to Fremont. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church in this city and was well known here. She is survived by her husband, Mel Butler, and the following children: Mrs. Frances Coffee of Fort Wayne; Mrs. Lucille Stalter of Louisiana; Fred Butler of Atlantic City, N.J.; Mrs. Forrest Vail of Fort Wayne. Two brothers, Dave and Harve Rice of this city, and two sisters survive. Dave and Harve Rice left immediately after receiving word from Fremont and will bring the remains to this city for burial. The funeral arrangements have not been made.

Harley M. Caley, 83, of Huntington, Indiana died Tuesday. A native of Wells County, he was born October 5, 1888 to Lewis and Caroline Platt Caley. His marriage to Clara M. Heaston, who died February 13, 1969, took place January, 1914 at Markle. A resident of Huntington since 1944, he was a member of the Loon Creek Church of the Brethren. Gerald Clem, Jr.

Logansport, Ind - Funeral rites are pending at Fisher Funeral Home here for Gerald Clem, Jr., 17, Walton, a Tipton Township HS honor pupil. He died in an ambulance en route to Long Hospital in Indianapolis yesterday afternoon. The youth became ill January 16 and when his condition became worse yesterday it was decided to take him to Indianapolis. Marion County Coroner Dennis J. Nicholas said he believed the youth "probably" had infectious hepatitis. The youth had visited Mexico during Christmas vacation and Dr. Nicholas noted that it would take about this long for the disease to take effect. Survivors include the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Clem; a brother, Douglas Clem at home and maternal and paternal grandparents.

Cleda Marie Danover

At least eight persons died on Indiana highways this past weekend, bringing the 1965 Indiana Highway toll to at least 770 compared with 669 a year ago. Two-year-old Cleda Marie Danover, Kokomo, died Sunday when a car driven by her father, Obby Jean Danover, 24, collided with a vehicle driven by James Mullins, 18, Chicago. The mishap occurred on I-74, west of Harrison. According to authorities, the Mullins car side-swiped the Danover auto as it was parked along the road.

Cory R. Elson, 26, Fort Wayne, a trooper with the Indiana State Police, died on Saturday in Decatur. He was born September 27, 1972 in Indianapolis to Thomas and Carol Layton Elson, who survive. He had been an ISP trooper since December of 1998 and was a member of the Troopers' Association and the Indiana State Police Alliance. Other survivors include his wife, the former Amy L. Betty Kramer Eltzroth - Age 85, On Sunday, May 11, 2008. She was born in Donora, October 31, 1922. She graduated from Donora High School in 1940. She attended Duff's Business College in Pittsburgh. She worked as a secretary for Holland Furnace, US Steel, Sylvania, fifteen years at Controlomatic Co. and ten years at Logan Elementary School in Bethel Park School District. Married Norris R. Eltzroth St. September 12, 1942. They were married 62 years until his death in 2004. She volunteered at Veteran's Hospital in Oakland, Meals on Wheels at Bethel Presbyterian and was a volunteer at Asbury heights (formerly Methodist Home) for 25 years. She served as president of the Asbury Auxiliary for eight years and was a member of the Board of Directors for eight years. She was also nominated for the Golden Rule Award in 1998. Betty resided in Bethel Park for 58 years and attended Christ United Methodist Church. Survived by her son, Norris R. (Wanda) Eltzroth, Jr., two grandchildren, Richard (Juli) Eltzroth of Broken Arrow, OK, and Veronica (William) Sutyak of Finleyville, two great-grandchildren, Adam of Oklahoma and William of Finleyville. Friends will be received Tuesday, May 13, and Wednesday, 14, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Paul L. Henney Memorial Chapel, 5570 Library Rd, Bethel Park, where funeral services will be held Thursday, May 15, 2008. Interment will follow at Jefferson Memorial Cemetery. Decatur, Nov. 9 - Word was received here today of the sudden death Friday of L. W. Frank, 72, prominent Decatur man, of a heart attack at Jonesboro, Ark. He had been in Arkansas for several months on business. Surviving are the widow and three children: Mrs. Frank Crist, Myron W. and Leland Frank, all of this city. Temporary burial was made in Jonesboro this morning, the body to be brought here later for interment.

DIED IN THE WEST - Mrs. Al Fritzinger, Former Root Township, Lady, Died in Idaho - YESTERDAY MORNING - Moved West Three Years Ago - Husband and Four Children Survive
Veda, wife of Al Fritzinger, died yesterday morning at the home of an uncle, at Cambridge, Idaho, where they had been visiting. The cause is not known, but a letter written last Friday, received here recently, said that both Mrs. Fritzinger and baby at that time, were suffering from severe colds. The body left there yesterday morning for Indianapolis where Mrs. Fritzinger lived prior to her marriage, she being a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Frye of that city. Mr. and Mrs. Fritzinger lived in Root township prior to going to Clarlave?, Montana, three years ago. They lived there until two weeks ago when they went to Idaho where they intended to make their home. Mr. Fritzinger, the bereaved husband, is a son of Mrs. Oscar Fritzinger of Monmouth. There are four children surviving. Mrs. Fritzinger is a niece of Mrs. Jonas Cline and of John James and the late Ben Rice of this city. PIONEER RESIDENT OF ADAMS TOWNSHIP - Wm. Gallmeyer Passes Away on Farm Where He Resided for Lifetime
William Gallmeyer, aged 65 years, died at 3 o'clock yesterday morning at his home in Adams township. Death followed a lengthy illness, and was due to senility. He was known to be one of the most progressive farmers in the township and had resided his entire life on the same farm. The deceased was a member of the St Martini Lutheran church, and had always taken an active interest in church affairs. He is survived by the widow and Susanna Gallmeyer; a daughter, Mrs. William Harderhorst; two brothers, Conrad and Ernest Gallmeyer; three sisters, Mrs. Jacob Zelt and Mrs. Christian Schafer (Schaper) of Adams township, and Mrs. Henry Wherling (Werling), of New Haven.

At least eight persons died on Indiana highways this past weekend, bringing the 1965 Indiana Highway toll to at least 770 compared with 669 a year ago. Edward Gibson, 28, Kendallville, was fatally injured Friday night in a car-truck collision on Ind 9 just south of Rome City.

Erma M. (Tullis) Graper

Erma M. Graper, 88, 317 Blair Pike, died at 1:50 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, 1991, at Miller's Merry Manor. She was born in Jasper County on June 12, 1903, to Leonard and Ethel Rice Tullis. She married Gordon A. Graper on Oct. 5, 1924, in Crown Point. He survives. Mrs. Graper retired as an elementary school teacher in Lake County and prepared for teaching at Indiana University. She was a homemaker and had grown roses and raised long-haired cats. She was active in the United Methodist Church women's circles and was a volunteer at the Gary Methodist Hospital and the Lake County Convalescent Home. Surviving with her husband, of Peru, are two sons, Richard, Kokomo and Gordon, Crown Point; three daughters, Ruth Church, Peru, Iris Paarlberg, Kouts, and Doris Rupprecht, Lowell; a brother, Dr. Everett Tullis, Prescott, Ariz.; 25 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 1991, at the Mexico United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Donna Springer officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Maplewood Memorial Park, 555 S. Indiana Ave., Crown Point.

Gordon A. Graper

Gordon A. Graper, 93, Peru, died Friday, Oct. 30, 1992, at 11 a.m., at Miller's Merry Manor in Peru. He was born Oct. 17, 1899, in Chicago, Ill., to Wilhelm and Helena Wilkening Graper. He married Erma Tullis Graper on Oct. 5, 1924. She preceded him in death on Nov. 26, 1991. Mr. Graper was a U.S. Army World War I veteran servicing with the 344th Battalion of the U. S. Army Tank Corps. He was retired as a millwright from the Gary plant of U. S. Steel, after 40 years of service. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Crown Point and the American Legion Fred Schmidt Post No. 20, Crown Point. He had moved from Crown Point to Peru in 1985. Mr. Graper is survived by two sons, Richard Graper, Kokomo, and Gordon E. Graper, Crown Point; three daughters, Iris Paarlberg, Kouts, Ruth Church, Peru, and Doris Rupprecht, Salt Lake City, Utah; one sister, Irma Sapper, Crown Point; a brother and sister-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Everett Tullis, Prescott, Ariz.; 24 grandchildren, and 35 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and two brothers. Graveside funeral services and burial were today at 11 a.m. at Maplewood Memorial Park in Crown Point. The Rev. Elwood Smith officiated. Memorial contributions may be made through Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home to the Mexico United Methodist Church.

Lora L. Grotrian, 74, died at 10:50 p.m. Monday at Lutheran Home. Mrs. Grotrian was a lifelong New Haven resident. She worked for General Electric Co., Fort Wayne, and as a custodian at Paul Harding High School, Fort Wayne, for 10 years. Her husband, Oscar H., died in 1967. Surviving is a daughter, Judy Stinson of Fort Wayne; a son, Dennis of Fort Wayne; three sisters, Orma Melcher, Nadine Moellering, and Viola Bearman , all of New Haven; two brothers, Vermont and Eldor Werling, both of New Haven; and four grandchildren. Services for Oscar H. Grotrian, 53, of 1343 Werling Road, New Haven, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Emanuel Lutheran Church, New Haven, the Rev. Stratford Eynon officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Grotrian died at 2:45 a.m. yesterday in Lutheran Hospital where he had been a patient nine hours. He was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church and was a former deacon. He was also a member of the Men's Club of the church. He was a 25-year employee of Tokheim Corp. and was a member of its Quarter Century Club. Churubusco Woman's Father Dead Upon Hospital Arrival
The Rev. Willard E. Grush, 68, Fort Wayne, father of Mrs. Charles Coleman, Churubusco, was dead on arrival at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, at 8:15 p.m. Thursday. He was born in Ohio but lived in Fort Wayne most of his life. He was a charter member of the First Christian Spiritualist Church and had been a minister there intermittently for the past 30 years. He retired three and a half years ago from General Electric Co., where he had been employed for 32 years. The wife survives, Ellen E. Grush, two other daughters, Mrs. Paul Balliet, Onaway, Mich., and Miss Judy Grush, at home; a stepdaughter, a stepson; a brother and sister, 11 grandchildren. Funeral plans yet are incomplete. The body is at the C. M. Sloan & Sons Funeral Home, Fort Wayne.

Mrs. Ruth Blossom Heironimus, 45 years old, former resident of Richmond, died Saturday morning at a hospital in Madison, Wis., where she had lived for a number of years. Mrs. Heironimus was well known locally and was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. J. C. Blossom. Her husband is a professor in the classical language department of the University of Wisconsin. Surviving are the husband, Paul Heironimus; two children, Lois and Mark Heironimus; a sister, Mrs. Vera Ruby, Richmond, and a brother, Dr. Paul Blossom, Richmond. Mrs. Heironimus was graduated from the Richmond High school and from Earlham college and formerly taught at both Williamsburg and Green's Fork. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at Madison. Columbus, Jan. 27 - At his home, six mils east of Nashville, Brown County early this morning, Henry Hover, a well to do farmer and his son George while attempting to remove a ball from a rifle, were both accidentally shot, the father's wound being fatal. The ball passed through the son's hand, striking the father in the stomach, from the effects of which he died a few hours later.

Handwritten-1938 TWO LADS DIE IN AIRPLANE CRASH SATURDAY - Upland Youths Die When Plane Falls; Pilot Injured
Fort Wayne, June 20-Pilot Ralph Davis, 26, of 1312 Elm street, and the open-seated biplane fell into a field near Upland Saturday afternoon fatally injuring two young passengers attributed the crash yesterday to defective tail controls which failed as he pointed the nose of the aircraft east toward the Coyle ?? farm which he had used as a landing field. The bureau of air commerce officials completed their investigation of the tragedy yesterday which claimed the lives of John Kraft 17, star basketball player, and William Koenemann, 16, both of Upland. Separate inquiries were conducted by Deputy Sheriff Charles Coultier and Inspector B. F. Moulton form the bureau of air commerce, Indianapolis. They found that Davis did not have a student permit to pilot the plane as indicated by ??? Davis had passed an examination for a student license ?? 29, 1935, which was valid for ?? years. It had not been renewed. A student permit would not have qualified Davis to take up passengers, airport officials advised (crunched) Davis, who suffered multiple injuries and abrasions over the body and head in the crash, has no broken bones, according to an x-ray examination. Funeral services for Koenemann, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Koenemann of Hoagland, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the residence and at 2:30 p.m. at the Flat Rock Methodist Episcopal church, which he was a member. Interment will be in the Antioch cemetery west of Hoagland. The Zwick funeral home of Decatur will be in charge. Funeral services for Kraft will be at the home of the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Kraft at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday ant at 12:30 p.m. at the Hoagland Methodist Episcopal Church, which the crash victim attended. The funeral cortege then will proceed to the Armanda Baptist Church in Spencerville, O., for services Tuesday afternoon and interment (left side was missing; rest of article is missing)

Birch Lawrence, 69, of R. 4, Albion, died May 2, 1973 at Whitley County Hospital after suffering a heart attack at home. He was born May 18, 1904 in Noble Twp, a son of Edward and Stella (Pritchard) Birch. He married Lucille Snell Sept. 28, 1921 at Charlotte, Mich. Except for the years 1932 to 1937 when he resided in Columbia City, he had spent his entire lifetime in Noble County, where he was engaged in general farming. He was a member of the Noble County Farm Bureau. Surviving are his widow of R. 4, Albion; a son, Paul V. of R. 6, Columbia City; two grandchildren, Rebecca and Ethan; one brother, Albert of R. 4, Albion; one sister, Mrs. Mary Geiger of R. 1, Kimmell. Milo Lehman, age 22, grandson of Mrs. Maria Habegger of W. Main St., and who has a large number of relatives in Berne and community, passed away at the home of his parents, David and Mary Habegger Lehman, at Pandora, O., on Tuesday morning. Death was ascribed to pneumonia which followed a few days serious illness of influenza. The deceased was born at Pandora on March 12, 1916, and graduated from the Pandora high school. Surviving are his parents and one brother, Francis. Milo attended the 90th birthday anniversary celebration for his grandmother here last Jan. 29. Word was received today by J. D. Schwartz of northwest of Berne of the death of Peter J. Liechty, aged 59, who died Thursday morning, May 5, at Lake Charles, La. Mr. Liechty was a native of this community and has many relatives here. Mr. Liechty became ill ??? morning, May 1, and his condition rapidly became worse. He was taken to the hospital on Wednesday, (Missing) death as taken from a Lake Charles newspaper. P. J. Liechty, 59, sexton of Graceland cemetery, died at 1 o'clock this morning at St. Patrick's hospital. He was born May 4, 1879, near Berne, Ind. His boyhood was spent in Tennessee, and later he moved to Cartersville, Ga., where on August 22, 1897, he was united in marriage with Elizabeth Kohle. The couple moved to Lake Charles in 1901 and have resided in and near Lake Charles since. Mr. Liechty was united with the Methodist church at the age of 14 (missing) Surviving are his wife; six children, D. A. Liechty of Manila, P. I., Mrs. H. O. Porter of Woodlawn, J. H. MAUDE A. LINK, 82, DIES IN CALIFORNIA - Native of DeKalb County and Former Resident of Auburn Succumbs at San Diego After a Two-Year Illness
Word was received in Auburn Tuesday of the death of Miss Maude A. Link, age 82, a native of DeKalb county and former resident of Auburn. Miss Link, a resident of La Jolla, Calif., for the past 10 years, died at San Diego following an illness extending over the past two years. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Laura Link of Auburn and was educated in the Auburn schools before she moved to Chicago nearly 59 years ago. Miss Link was employed for many years at Carson, Pirie & Scott department store in Chicago. Private funeral rites were held at San Diego with burial in a San Diego cemetery. Miss Link was the last of a family of five children. She was preceded in death by the late Judge Dan M.Link of Auburn, who died April 10, 1953, Alva Link of Auburn, a twin brother, Claude Link of Chicago and George Link who dies many years ago. Surviving are a nephew, Thomas M. Link of 810 North Main street, Auburn, and a niece, Mrs. Frank M. Millikan of La Jolla. Miss Link last visited Auburn at the time of the death of Judge Link. Luther Mather

Lafayette, Jan. 27 - This afternoon at Greenhill, a small village in Warren County, Luther Mather shot at his wife, but missed her. He then turned the weapon on himself and committed suicide. They had been married three years, but had quarreled frequently. Today Mather went to his wife's home and an altercation arose over their child, culminating in the tragedy.

ALBERT V. MAURER, LUTHERAN EDUCATOR
Albert V. Maurer, 82, of New Haven died at 5:30 a.m. Saturday in the Lutheran Home. Mr. Maurer was a native of Illinois (Cowling, Wabash County) and was a teacher for more than 50 years. He taught at schools in St. Louis, Chicago and Fort Smith, Ark., and was a professor at Concordia Teachers' College in River Forest, Ill. He moved to New Haven in 1971 and wrote the Perspective column for the Fort Wayne Lutheran News. He also was a teacher consultant for the Fort Wayne Lutheran schools. Surviving are his wife, Gertrude; a daughter, Marion Maurer of Clarendon Hills, Ill., and two stepsons, Roger Dall of Carol Stream, Ill., and Charles Dull of Appleton, Wis. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Emanuel Lutheran Church, New Haven. Friends may call from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, New Haven, and from an hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in Covington Memorial Gardens. Preferred memorials are gifts to the church, the Lutheran Hour or the Lutheran Television Productions.

At least eight persons died on Indiana highways this past weekend, bringing the 1965 Indiana Highway toll to at least 770 compared with 669 a year ago. The first weekend traffic victim was Charles Miller, 62, Taylor, Mich. He died Friday night when his truck was hit by a train at Muncie crossing.

Edward Moore

At least eight persons died on Indiana highways this past weekend, bringing the 1965 Indiana Highway toll to at least 770 compared with 669 a year ago. A rural one-car accident late Saturday claimed the life of Edward Moore, 24 of near Paoli. He died when his car went out of control on a county road east of Paoli and struck a bridge.

A two-story frame building collapsed at Dunkirk, Jay County the other afternoon. George Moore, a plasterer, was instantly killed and three others injured. Improper bracing caused the accident.

Benjamin F. Patterson, a former resident of Adams county, five miles southwest of Monroeville, died at his home in Iola, Kansas at 1 o'clock on the morning of December the first, of typhoid fever at the age of 52 years and 8 months. The deceased was born and raised in Adams county, was united in marriage in the year 1870 to Miss Eliza Hale, of Hancock county, Ohio, after which they moved to Allen county, Kansas, where they have resided until death's hand caused a separation. A wife, three daughters and three sons, and three sisters survive him. WALTER PECKHAM RITES TO BE HELD THIS AFTERNOON
Funeral services for Walter L. Peckham, 72, a long-time resident of Franklin Park, will be held at 2 p.m. today from the First Methodist church of Franklin Park. Burial will be in Eden cemetery. Mr. Peckham was for many years active in Franklin Park civic affairs. Coming to this are in 1910, he served for several years as village clerk and was a member of the grade school board at the time the present building was erected. Although he served with the grade school unit, he was influential in bringing about the building of a high school here. Mr. Peckham had been an employee of the Western Union organization since 1916. He retired in March, 1949. He was a member of the Methodist church here and was secretary of Leyden Lodge 993. A.F. & A.M. He is survived by his widow, Myrtle, and three daughters, Mrs. Marian Tudor of Elmwood Park, Miss Estelle Peckham of Franklin Park, and Mrs. Louise Mackeben of River Grove; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

JOSEPH REICHHART, 87, of Fort Wayne, formerly of Woodburn, died at 3:30 am Friday in St Joseph's Hospital. Born in Ohio, Mr Reichhart was a retired farmer and cement contractor who lived in Allen County most of his life. Surviving are six sons, Gerald of Hoagland, Luellyn and Donald, both of New Haven, Clarence and Kenneth, both of Woodburn, and Willard, of Quincy, Mich; one daughter, Carol Gepfert, of Fort Wayne; and 21 grandchildren. Services at 11 am Monday in Zion Lutheran Church, Woodburn, and calling there one hour before services. Calling also from 2 to 9 pm Sunday in Hockemeyer Funeral Home, Harlan. Burial in the church cemetery. Memorials to the church building fund.

Clifford Rice

Clifford Rice, who led his own band, "Bop City," died Thursday at his Santa Rosa home. He was 46. Rice's mother, Peggy Rice of Santa Rosa, said the Sonoma County Coroner's Office had an autopsy performed to determine if Rice died of heart failure. A lifetime Santa Rosa resident, Rice had his own band for many years. The band played at El Rancho Tropicana and at the Villa and at other engagements. He also operated his own recording studio. And he recorded public meetings at the Windsor Community Center. Rice was a 1967 graduate of Santa Rosa High School. In high school, he was a member of the Future Farmers of America. He raised swine for a project. He also attended Santa Rosa Junior College and Sonoma State University as a music major. During the Vietnam War, Rice accompanied another band on a U.S.O. tour in Asia as a guitarist. "He was an avid reader. And he was a 49er fan. He never missed a game," said his mother. In addition to his mother, Rice is survived by his longtime companion, Stacy Stjern of Santa Rosa; and sister, Cauleen Isermann of Santa Rosa. His father, Parker "Bud" Rice, died in February. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Daniels Chapel of the Roses in Santa Rosa. Private inurnment will be at Santa Rosa Memorial Park. Memorial donations are preferred to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 844, Santa Rosa 95402.

MILDRED RICE DIES AT AGE 72
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow for Mildred Hobbs Rice, 72, a native of Indiana, who died yesterday in a Santa Rosa hospital after a five-month illness. Mrs. Rice was a patient at the same hospital as her husband, James C. Rice, at the time of her death. She lived in the county 14 years coming from Marysville. Mr. and Mrs. Rice started the first settlement of Carmet near Bodega Bay. She was a member of Daughters of Union War Veterans. She also is survived by her sons, Parker B. Rice, Santa Rosa, and James D. Rice, San Leandro; her sister, Mrs. Mary McClellan, Boulder Colo.; six grandchildren and one great-grandson. Services will be held at the Eggen & Lance Mortuary with the Rev. William Bowen of the Presbyterian Church of the Roses officiating. Burial will be in Santa Rosa Memorial Park.

DONALD E. RINKER, Anglican Priest, 61
Donald E. Rinker of Aurora, a priest with the Anglican Catholic Church, died Tuesday at Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was 61. A requiem mass will be said at 9:30 a.m. today at St. Mary's Anglican Catholic Church, 2290 S. Clayton St. Interment will be in Fort Logan National Cemetery. He was born May 16, 1930 in Galesburg, Ill. On Oct. 8, 1956, he married Gloria N. Kelly in Tacoma, Wash. He served in the Navy and the Air Force. He graduated from Anglican Theological College in Vancouver, British Columbia, and was ordained in 1967. Rinker worked for many Anglican Catholic churches in Canada. He moved to the Denver area in 1979. He was a member of the Masons and Eastern Star. He is survived by his wife; three sons, Patrick, Erin and Daniel; two daughters, Yvette Mason and Denise Biesecker; his mother, Florence, and eight grandchildren. Walter F. Schmidt, 70, of 829 McKinney Ave., died at 7:15 a.m. yesterday in Lutheran Hospital, where he had been a patient since late Saturday. A native of Fort Wayne, he was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and Fort Wayne Maennerchor. Mr. Schmidt was a retired owner of a hardware store. Surviving are his wife, Edith; two daughters, Mrs. Marcia Mahlan, and Mrs. Onalee Hauschild, both of Fort Wayne; a brother, Edwin, Fort Wayne; and two sisters, Mrs. Alma Stein, and Mrs. Elsie Elliott, both of Fort Wayne. Samuel Sewell

At his home in this city Wednesday morning, January 10, 1917, at eight o'clock, Samuel Sewell, a veteran of the civil war and a highly respected citizen, passed away at the age of nearly 81 years. Mr. Sewell had not been in good health for some time, but only a short time before his death was he compelled to take to his bed. The deceased was one of the early pioneers of Bremer county, coming here with his parents when a boy of sixteen, and excepting the three years he served in the army, his home has always been in Bremer county. He was a man who had the respect of all who knew him, and in his death a good citizen is called to his reward. Samuel Sewell was born in Marion county, Ind., March 11, 1836, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. Sewell who came to Bremer county in 1852, settling in Janesville. His parents passed away many years ago. August 7, 1863, he enlisted in Company B, 38th Iowa Volunteers, and served until September 7, 1865, when he was honorably discharged. After the close of the war he returned to Bremer county and took up farming in Jackson township, where he resided until June, 1874, when he moved to a farm in Polk township, living there until about fifteen years ago, when he came to Waverly, and this city has since been his home. Mr. Sewell was twice married, his first wife being Miss Anna Catherine Hursh, who died in 1860. He was again married to Miss Sarah C. McElhaney, of Indiana Co., Pa., who, with several children, survives. At the time of going to press, funeral arrangements have not been completed, and the date will depend on the arrival of the relatives.

Harmon Smith, age about 65, died suddenly of a heart attack at his farm near Rawson, Ohio, according to a wire received her by Eli Baumgartner. Mr. Smith ws the father-in-law of Ira Baumgartner, head of the schools at Sylvania, Ohio. Funeral services were conducted this afternoon and were attended by Mr. and Mrs. Eli Baumgartner and Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Nussbaum of this place. Mr. Smith was well known here by the Bluffton college students.

William Stoner

William Stoner died Monday morning at his home, 608 Walnut Street, from tuberculosis, at the age of sixty-eight years. Mr. Stoner was a native of Whitley County and had resided in Fort Wayne for about six years. He was formerly engaged in selling extracts about the city. The surviving relatives include the widow and three children, Charles of Whitley county, and the Misses Anna and Lula Stoner, of this city.

Ethel Tullis, 89, died Wednesday [10/10/1973] in the Lake County Convalescent Home. She was born at Goodland in 1884, had worked as a telegraph agent for the Erie Railroad for 40 years, retiring in 1949, and had lived in Crown Point for 28 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and its Woman's Society of Christian Service. Survivors are a son, Dr. E. R. Tullis of Prescott, Ariz.; a daughter, Mrs. Gordon Graper, Crown Point; 10 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the Merriam Little Funeral Home today (Thursday) from 2 to 5 and to 10 o'clock, where the Rev. Alfred L. Keller will officiate for services at 11 a.m. Friday. Burial will be made in Maplewood Cemetery.

Maxine (Dinwiddie) Tullis

Maxine (Dinwiddie) Tullis, 88, formerly of Crown Point and Prescott, Ariz., died on Jan. 13 in Phoenix, Ariz. She is survived by five children, Ann (Ronal) Sharp of Crown Point, Mary Jo Kadlec of Baltimore, Md., James Tullis of Chicago, Carol Tullis of Bloomington, Ind., and Judy Tullis-Hersh of Phoenix, Ariz.; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Mrs. Tullis was preceded in death by her husband Everett R. Tullis, D.D.S. and her brother, Keith Dinwiddie. Maxine was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, a life member of DAR serving as Regent of the Julia Watkins Brass Chapter, a member of Tri Kappa Sorority, the Eastern Star, Prescott Chapter and other community activities. Funeral services were held at Pruzin & Little Funeral Chapel with Rev. Lorin Clemenz officiating. Burial was at Maplewood Memorial Cemetery.

Garrett C. Ulrey

Garrett C. Ulrey, 38, of 1604 N. Rural St., died early today in Robert W. Long Hospital. Death was due to toxic conditions. Funeral services probably will be held Saturday morning at the residence. Burial will be in the Mooresville Cemetery. Mr. Ulrey had been a lifelong resident of Indianapolis. He had been employed as a machinist by the Pennsylvania Railroad. He was a Modern Woodman and Red man. His illness was short. His widow, Mrs. Relda Ulrey, three sons, his mother, Mrs. Mary Ulrey, living in Oklahoma; two sisters and two brothers survive.

Theodore Walzer

Theodore "Ted" Walzer, 70, of 3602 S. Clinton St. died at 3 p.m. yesterday at St. Joseph's Hospital, where he had been a patient one day. Mr. Walzer was a native of Kentland, and had lived in Fort Wayne 50 years. He retired in 1956 from the Pennsylvania railroad after 27 years' service. Following retirement, he was a crossing guard for 12 years. He is survived by his wife, Mildred; a son, Phillip, Fort Wayne; his mother, Mrs. Marie Walzer, Fort Wayne; three brothers, Walter, Fort Wayne, Val, Coldwater, Mich., and Frank, Bluffton; and three sisters, Mrs. Barbara Pelon, ..uncy, Pa., Mrs. Helen O'Brien, Santa ..ns, Calif., and Mrs. Gertrude Harbert, St. Petersburg, Fla. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Elzey-Dickey-Haggard Home for Funerals, Waynedale, and at 10 a.m. in St. Therese Catholic Church. Arnold J. Werling, 78, died at 5:45 a.m. Monday at Golden Years Homestead. Born in Wells County (Near Ossian), he lived most of his life in Fort Wayne. Mr. Werling retired from General Electric Co. after 45 years. Surviving are three sons; Darwin, of Holland, Mich., Wayne, of Springfield, Ohio, and Robert of Fort Wayne; three stepchildren, Claudia Nagel, Clifford Nagel and Natalie Mc Cutcheon, cities unavailable; a brother, George, of Fort Wayne; five sisters, Hilda Deeter and Edith Schmidt, both of Fort Wayne, Gertrude Gehring, Lorene Gremaux, and Dorothy Schroeder, all of New Haven; and eight grandchildren. Mrs. Beulah T. Werling, 70, of 2433 Charlotte Ave., died at 10 a.m. yesterday at her residence following an illness of three years. She was a native of Monroeville and a lifelong resident of Allen County. She was a member of Trinity English Lutheran Church; Daughters of the Nile; and Trinity Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. Surviving is her husband, Elmer J., two brothers, Cecil and Demonte Taylor, both of Fort Wayne; and two sisters, Mrs. Chester Steerhoff, Bryan, Ohio, and Mrs. Ann Searles, Chesterland, Ohio. The body was taken to the D. O. McComb & Sons Funeral Home where friends may call after 7 p.m. today.

Services for Elmer J. Werling, 74, formerly of 2433 Charlotte Ave., will be at 1 p.m.Monday at D. O. McComb & Sons Funeral Home. He died yesterday in St. Anne Home. He was the former owner of Werling Market and later worked at the Mizpah Shrine Club. He was a lifelong resident of Fort Wayne and a member of Trinity English Lutheran Church, Sol D. Bayless Lodge, F&AM, Scottish Rite, and Mizpah Shrine. A sister, Mrs. Adele Schmidt of Fort Wayne, survives. Calling will be at the funeral home afternoon today. Mrs. Irma Werling, 57, of 2835 Pittsburgh St., died at 5:30 p.m. yesterday in the Lutheran Hospital where she had been a patient a day. She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid Society. Surviving are her husband, Arnold; three sons, Darwin of Holland, Mich., Wayne of Fort Wayne, and Robert at home; and five brothers, Charles, Albert, Edward, Willard, and Delmar Lepper, all of Fort Wayne. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Rodenbeck-Hockemeyer Funeral Home; Rev. Osmar Lehenbauer officiating. Burial will be in Concordia Lutheran Cemetery. DEATH TAKES SAM WICKEY - Former Local Man Dies in Michigan Last Thursday
Samuel Wickey, age about 72, died at his home at Centerville, Mich., Thursday from a heart ailment, according to word received here by his brother David. Mr. Wickey formerly operated a blacksmith shop two miles east of Berne on highway 118 and was very well-known here. He moved to Michigan from here about 25 years ago. The deceased was born in Marshall county this state but came to Berne as a young man. He was the son of August and Lydia Yoder Wickey. He was married to Barbara Schwartz. Nine children were born to the union, eight of whom survive with the widow. They are Chris, Lydia, Jacob, Anna and August of Michigan, Dan of near Berne and David and Barbara of Michigan. One daughter preceded. One brother, David of Berne, and one sister, Mrs. Mary Hochstettler of Arthur, Ill., survive. A brother, Jacob, preceded. Mrs. Marie E. Wiehe

Mrs. Marie E. Wiehe, 78, a resident of Auburn for one year, died Saturday at 2:45 pm at her home. She had been in poor health for the past two years. Mrs. Wiehe was a native of Allen county and had lived in Fort Wayne until moving to Auburn. Surviving are a son, Edwin W. of Auburn; a brother, Carl Nuerge of Decatur and a sister, Mrs. Wilhelmina Schaper of Ossian. The body was taken to the DO McComb funeral home in Fort Wayne where final rites will be held Wednesday at 3 pm. The Rev. Otto Mueller will officiate and burial will follow in Emmanuel Lutheran cemetery at Soest.

James Wilson

At least eight persons died on Indiana highways this past weekend, bringing the 1965 Indiana Highway toll to at least 770 compared with 669 a year ago. James Wilson, 22, Lafayette, died early Saturday when his motorcycle went out of control on Ind 26 near Lafayette and struck a tree.

JOSEPH R. WYSS, 90, of Hoagland, died Monday at his home. The Allen County native was a farmer. Surviving are his daughter, Rosalind Golden of Hoagland; sons, Joseph N. and Charles E., both of Hoagland; 18 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren. His wife, Marie F., died in 1987. Services are 11:15 a.m. Thursday at Tom Mungovan Funeral Home, 2221 S. Calhoun St. Services are also noon Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hessen Cassel. ORVILLE MILTON ZIEGEL, 71, of Fort Wayne died Wednesday at home. The Rockwell City, Iowa, native taught for 33 years, retiring from Concordia Lutheran Elementary School in 1987. He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, its dart ball team, former choir director of the church, and also coached boys football and girls basketball teams at the elementary school. Surviving are his wife, Marcella M.; daughters, Juliann Horpedahl of Sacramento, Calif., and Patti Owen of Holland, Ohio; sons, Dean of Jourdanton, Texas, Alan of Kenton, Ohio, and Gregg of Fort Wayne; a sister, Mildred Ellis of Manson, Iowa; a brother, Wayne of Temple, Texas; and seven grandchildren. Services are 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the church, with burial in Concordia Cemetery Gardens. Calling is 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, and 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the church.
