RALPH PERKINS' BODY IS FOUND IN SYLVAN LAKE - Fisherman Find Missing Fort Wayne Man in Water in Boathouse
After a five-day search, the body of Ralph Perkins, 52, ?? Archer Avenue, was found floating on top of the water in a boathouse near the Mainland on Sylvan Lake about 10:30 a.m. today. The body, badly decomposed, was discovered by two fishermen, Walter Fidler, Peru, and M. R. Mossman, 2415 Smith Street, Fort Wayne, who went to investigate an odor emanating from the boathouse. State police, who began dragging the lake shortly after Perkins was reported missing on Saturday night, were still conducting a search for him when the body was found. Dr. John Hall, Kendallville, Noble County coroner, said death was due to accidental drowning. The boathouse is part of the lake equipment of the Lookout Cottage, owned by a Mrs. Norwood, of Cleveland, O.
WAS WELL-KNOWN - Mr. Perkins, who was in charge of the employes' store at the General Electric Broadway plant and was well known in athletic circles as a timekeeper at boxing matches, was last seen at 7 o'clock Saturday night when he left Fort Wayne. He went to visit a brother, Robert Perkins, who resides in a cottage on Lovett's Point on Sylvan Lake. Lake Saturday night, Perkins' automobile containing a suitcase and other personal belongings, was found parked near the cottage by (cut off) ...duplex lake residence. The body, which was fully clothed, was found some distance (cut off) After Mr. Perkins failed to return, state police began dragging the lake with grappling hooks on the theory that he might have fallen into the water. He had been under a doctor's care for nervousness. Relatives said that Mr. Perkins never ventured in to a boat on his frequent visits to the lake and that he usually spent his time sitting on the pier.
He had been an employe of the Broadway plant of the G. E. since 1919. The body was to be brought to Fort Wayne this afternoon and taken to the Klaehn and Sons' Funeral Home.

Fred H. Scheumann, aged eighty years, Fort Wayne's oldest undertaker, former Pennsylvania shopman, and for the past seventy-three years a resident of Allen county, died at 4:20 o'clock yesterday morning at his home, 1725 South Calhoun street. Death was due to complications arising from the infirmities of old age and followed an extended illness. Apparently realizing at that time that he was nearing the end of his life he stated that he would never return to his office. Since that time his health declined rapidly. Mr. Scheumann was born February 12, 1837 in Wolfhagen, Kreis Minden, Germany. At the age of seven years, he came with his parent to the United States and directly to Fort Wayne and he had resided in this county continuously ever since. Later he accepted employment in the local Pennsylvania shops and was employed there for twenty years. On April 1, 1880, M.r Scheumann began his forty-year career as an undertaker, when he with Mr Schoppman bought the firm of Hall & Klaehn. Mr. Schoppman died shortly after this and Mr. Scheumann conducted the business alone until 1888 when he and Robert Klaehn of the present firm of Klaehn & Melching organized the firm of Scheumann & Klaehn. Ten years later, Mr. Scheumann disposed of his interest to Mr. Klaehn and shortly afterward re-embarked in the business alone. Several years later he entered partnership with Christian Ulmer of the present firm of Wellman & Ulmer and formed the Scheumann & Ulmer firm. This partnership was dissolved six years ago. Mr. Scheumann and his son, Albert H. Scheumann conducting the business under the name of FH Scheumann & Son since that time. Mr. Scheumann at the age of twenty-six years was united in marriage to Miss Lizette Mailand, who died eighteen years later. January 9, 1881, he married Miss Mary Breimeyer, who survives. HURLS HIMSELF INTO 40 TONS OF BOILING IRON
Muncie, Dec. 26-A tragic Yuletide legacy from her father, little Patricia Tilley's Christmas gifts lay stacked about a brightly lighted tree in an empty home today. Patricia hasn't been home since her mother took her away last July. William E. Tilley, in despair over the separation, bought and decorated the tree. He wrapped the presents and wrote a poem for Patricia, and two notes to friends. Then the 33-year-old father went to work as usual at a foundry. He cast himself into a cupola furnace where forty tons of molten iron boiled. His foreman found the notes. The verse, "To Patricia from Daddy,' referred to the lost happiness of evenings of play with the little girl. Another note told how he returned home last July 29 to find his wife and child gone. "Without Patricia I have nothing to live for," he wrote.
The note said Tilley feared his grief was affecting his mind and that his condition might endanger fellow workmen.
