David Andre Bobilya, 65, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 9, 2018 after a courageous battle with ALS. He fought the battle with dignity and grace, and a strong belief in Jesus Christ. He was the son of Donald and Velma (Klausing) Bobilya. David graduated from Indiana University School of Business at IPFW in 1975, concentrating in Accounting. He passed the CPA exam in 1975. At the age of 15, David began his career with Maloley's Supermarkets as a carry-out boy. He moved through the ranks to the position of controller until Al Maloley, a lifelong friend and mentor, sold the Maloley Supermarkets to Super Value. He elected not to accept a new position with Super Value, so that he could remain in Fort Wayne and be close to his kids. A friend mentioned to David that Pizza Hut of Fort Wayne needed a controller for the company. David interviewed with Dick Freeland, who also became a lifelong friend and mentor. That interview began a 37-year career with Pizza Hut. Over the years, his career evolved to Treasurer, Vice President, President and ultimately CEO. There were 13 restaurants in 1981 when David joined the company. He was an active participant as the company grew to its current number of 45 restaurants. He loved working for Dick and Deanna Freeland, as well as with everyone in the "Pizza Hut Family". David had a strong work ethic. He was a well-respected man of integrity and true character. He led his work and personal life with an inner strength based on trustworthiness, wisdom, listening, and a balanced perspective on all things. David tried to pattern his work principles after the guidelines set forth in The Servant Leader. Both his family and his Pizza Hut family know that he has also gotten "The Blue Vase" on more than one occasion. He traveled to Poland in 1995 to visit the Pizza Hut and KFC franchisee and soon became a minority partner in that business. In October 2000, the franchisee company and the parent company were merged into a joint venture named AmRest and this organization operated more than 100 restaurants in Poland and the Czech Republic. In 2005, AmRest concluded an Initial Public Offering and began trading on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. Along his business journey, he met many friends that influenced his life and his career. Among them, Donald Kendall, Carlton Kruse, and Jackson Lehman. David was a member of The Chapel. He was a devoted community volunteer. He recently received the Sagamore of the Wabash that declared him as "one distinguished by his Humanity in Living, his Loyalty in Friendship, his Wisdom in Council, and his Inspiration in Leadership". He served as board chair of the Foellinger Foundation, Turnstone Center for Disabled Children & Adults, and Fort Wayne Convention & Visitors Bureau. He also served on the board of directors of The Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce and Parkview Hospital. He was past president of the Fort Wayne Country Club, the Financial Executives Institute, and a member of the Fort Wayne Business Forum. He served on the national board of the Pizza Hut Restaurant Supply Chain Solutions Co-op. David was the solid rock that bound his family together. He was the "supporter behind the scenes" and the person that his family could always count on for kindness, wisdom, love, and his calm reassuring manner. His faith in Jesus Christ kept him strong each day of his life and his family was a witness to his walk with the Lord. "Well done, good and faithful servant!" He enjoyed spending time with his family. He and Annie especially loved family gatherings at their home on Christmas Eve, and celebrating 4th of July at FWCC. They enjoyed vacations to New York City, Siesta Key, and San Francisco. David is survived by his wife of 29 years, Annie; their four children: Carrie (Kevin) Collins; Daniel (Rachel) Bobilya; Mark Bobilya; Lesley Ann (Marc) Pfleging: daughters-in-law, Tina Bobilya and Leigh Bobilya; grandchildren Alix, Hannah, Jagger, Donovan, Mallory, Davis, Joseph, Elizabeth, Ella, Lilly, and Addison; Also surviving are brothers Dean (Lori) Bobilya; Dennis Bobilya; sisterSandra (Tom) Sorgani; brother-in-law Michael (Karen) Johnson; and eight nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents. David was so fortunate - he got to spend most of his years at Pizza Hut working side by side with two of his best friends, Dick Freeland and Rick Oliphant. They also proceeded him in death. Dr. David J. Erwin of Lake City, Mich., died very suddenly at his home at 2:30 o'clock this morning. His death was due to heart trouble and the sad message received here early caused grief and sorrow among his many relatives and friends. The doctor retired last evening in good health, became sick about midnight and died within two hours. He was a robust, healthy-looking man, weighing 220 pounds, and for years had enjoyed splendid health, though for a few months past he has had slight heart trouble. The deceased was born in Union township, this county, October 28, 1861, and was reared and educated here. He graduated in 1883 from the Fort Wayne Medical college, practiced a short time at Wren, O., and at Monroe, and moved to Lake City in 1887. He had a large practice there and was one of the most popular men in that district, having held a number of offices, and having been his party's nominee for congress and for probate judge during recent years, always running ahead of his ticket. He was married in 1883 to Miss Lepha Dudley of Van Wert county, Ohio, who, with four children, survive. The eldest son is twenty-one years old and is in his third year at the Chicago Medical College. His four brothers, Judge R. K., Daniel, Dore B., of this city, and William of Monroeville, will leave this afternoon to attend the funeral. The first news of the death came in a telegram, followed by a telephone message from Dick Erwin, Jr., of this city, who was visiting his uncle at the time. Dr. Erwin visited here this summer, shortly before the death of his sister, Mrs. Belle Allen. Mrs. Johnson of Wabash,
and Mrs. Rinear of Van Buren, are also sisters of the deceased. The funeral arrangements are not known.

DR. DAVID ERWIN RESPECTED - A Lake City Paper Tells of His Life
Upon the sudden death of Doctor David J. Erwin at his home in Lake City, Michigan, last Thursday morning, October 11, the Plain Dealer of that city says: "The entire village mourns the sudden departure of one of our most loved and honored of citizens, a terrible shock was given to the people and will long be felt as he was loved by all."
David J. Erwin was born in Adams county, Indiana, six miles south of Monroeville, on his father's farm, October 30, 1861, and to young he felt the usual hardships and pleasures of boys on a new farm. He received what education the district schools of that day afforded, and when about eighteen years of age entered the M.E. college at Fort Wayne, and remained there one year. Falling back on the resource of most poor boys who are earning their education, he taught school for a time, then went to Valparaiso Normal and completed the scientific course at that school. He next entered the Fort Wayne Medical college, whence he graduated with honor three years later. After a post graduate course at Cincinnati, he began the practice of medicine, locating first in Van Wert county, Ohio, remaining there until June 1887, when he removed to Lake City, where he remained enjoying a good practice until summoned home, save one year spent at Decatur, Ind.
Dr. Erwin was married in 1883 to Miss Lepha Dudley, to them were born two sons and two daughters, all of whom survive him. He was always a Democrat and although a resident of a Republican district, he was honored by his people by being elected to a number of offices in the gift of his people, viz: Four times supervisor of his township, president of his village and served several terms in his village council and school board, each time being elected by a good majority indicating the love and esteem in which he was held by his people.
The body lay in state at the court house from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday morning and was viewed by nearly every citizen of Lake City and many from the surrounding country. Funeral services were held at 10:30 at the residence after which the body was laid to rest in the cemetery one-half mile north of Lake City, to await the general resurrection. The funeral cortege was the largest ever formed in Lake City and was led by the I.O.O.F. and the Maccabee orders, of which he was an honored member.
The I.O.O.F. order performed the last rites.

Jackie Preston Nettles, age 84, passed away Thursday, April 26, 2018. Jackie found her church home at Capri Christian Church and became involved in many ministries including Phillips (widows) ministry and grief support She Loved to walk up to someone at church who was sitting by themselves and say, "Are you alone today?" She would then sit next to them and say, "not anymore!" She loved to share the salvation Gospel of Jesus Christ to everyone and she would say, "It is not a religion, its' a relationship with Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior." She loved connecting people together, so that they could help each other up in their shared trial. Jackie's greatest ministry came when she was recently diagnosed with "small-cell lung carcinoma" and given only a few months to live. She testified to the overwhelming Peace of God that surpasses all understanding. She straight away got busy and visited with family and friends to say her goodbyes. She especially wanted to witness to her friends that didn't know Jesus Christ. Her courage and trust in the Lord's promises was inspirational to all. All that knew her loved her. She often said, "That if you have a pulse, you have a purpose." That is the challenge that Jackie left with us. Her survivors include Jackie's daughter Kim Ranelle Munroe (and her husband Craig) of Bloomington, Indiana, her son's Kel Ryan Preston of Fort Wayne, Indiana and Kent Richard Preston of Indianapolis, Indiana (Their wives Sandy and Lori) 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
