Mossman, of the Mossman-Yarnelle company, had gone to Biloxi in the hope of recuperating her health. She had been ailing for some time. She was sixty-three years old. Mrs. Mossman went to Biloxi with her daughter, Mrs. G. A. Jacobs, last week, and at the time of her departure was not in the best of health, although it was thought that she would make steady improvement in the south. She belonged to one of the finest and the oldest of the Fort Wayne families and had been a conspicuous figure in the city's social life for a number of years. Born in Mansfield, O., she was married to W. E. Mossman and came to Fort Wayne about thirty-five years ago. Her family, the (cut off)..one of the fine old families of the rich country around (cut off)..dren, Mrs. George Philbrick, Mrs. George Jacobs and Mr. Paul Mossman, of Fort Wayne, and Mr. Mossman, survive her. Ever since she has been in Fort Wayne, she has been a member of the Plymouth Congregational church, and has been prominent in its charitable work throughout her long residence here. The news of her death came as a sudden shock to her family, as letters from Mrs. Jacobs had reported her as improving in health at a rapid rate. Though she had been able to be about, she had been ill for several months, and it was with the hope that her health would improve that she went to the south with her daughter. Mrs. Jacobs will leave Monday night for Fort Wayne with the body, and is expected to arrive here Wednesday morning. The funeral arrangements have not been made.

Miss Elizabeth Ann Riston

A Young lady Commits Suicide
Miss Elizabeth Ann Riston, a young lady living in Cole Creek township in this county, committed suicide on last Wednesday night, by taking strychnine. It was the old story, unrequited love and betrayal. The gay deceiver is said to be a young man by the name of Jackson Poe. He was arrested on Thursday and lodged in the city jail. The victim of the arts and wiles of the betrayer is represented as being a beautiful and accomplished lady, who, realizing her condition, with the painful agonizing grief that virtue always feels when hurled from its high estate, became maddened and sought death as a refuge. Like many of Eve's family, it was
"One more unfortunate, Weary of breathe, Rashly importunate, Gone to her death."
Crawfordsville Review, Montgomery County, IN; 10 Nov 1866
Arrested - Jackson Poe, implicated in the suicide of Miss Riston, was arrested by Marshal Ross; and on Saturday last, underwent an examination before Mayor Layman who recognized him in the sum of $1,000 for his appearance at Court, in default of which he was remanded to jail, to away his trial at the next judicial term.
We the undersigned Jurors, empaneled and sworn on the 8th day of November 1866 at the township of Coal Creek in the county of Montgomery in the State of Indiana, by Uriah M. Scott, Coroner of said county, to inquire and true presentment make in what manner and by whom Elizabeth Riston on the 7th day of November 1866 came to her death, after having examined the body, we do find that the deceased came to her death by taking poison known as strychnine; and we the jury further find that one William J. Poe was concerned in the perpetration of her death as an accessory before the fact. Given under our hands at the time and place of said inquisition abovementioned - John Blankenship, Foreman. Elizabeth (Sprunger) Schneck

FOREIGN CORRESPONDENCE
SONNENBERG, O., June 24, 1912
Elizabeth Schneck (Sprunger) was born at Berne, Ind., Nov. 3, 1857. She lived with her parents. At the age of 19 she joined the Mennonite church. April 8, 1880, she was married to Peter Schneck, near Dalton, Ohio. To this union four children were born. Two died in infancy. Her invalid daughter, Caroline, preceded her in death about 21 months ago. The only remaining child is Wesley, a noble young man, just grown into a full stature and revealing a character that is only shaped by a true mother. She fell asleep on June 20, 1912. Her last moments were passed in joy, as she was awaiting the summons of her Master Jesus Christ. She portrayed a Christian in the true sense of the word. The immediate cause of her death was dropsy of the heart. Mrs. Schneck attained the age of 54 years, 7 months and 17 days. She leaves to mourn her death a loving husband, a son and an aged father, besides 9 sisters and 6 brothers. The funeral was held Sunday morning from the Mennonite church. Rev. Gottshall, from Bluffton, O., officiated. The funeral was very largely attended, the church being filled and many were not able to gain entrance. The family is very highly respected and we all sympathize with the bereaved ones.
