Surviving are her children, Dimno Thang, Pau Pi, Pau Lun, Pau Thang, Cing Lun Niang, and Thang Hau; 23 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Ralph Edward Mansbarger, 86, of Montpelier, IN, passed away at 12:10 PM on Thursday, February 08, 2018 at Bridgewater Centre in Hartford City, IN. He was born on Saturday, February 28, 1931, in Fairmount, IN. He married Crystal (Blackburn) Mansbarger on Tuesday, November 22, 1949 in Gas City, IN. Ralph had worked as a truck driver, and loved horses. He enjoyed watching thoroughbred harness racing. Anna Joyce (Meyer) Martin

Anna Joyce Martin, 92, of Decatur, IN passed away Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Ft. Wayne. Joyce was born in Huntington County on November 15, 1925 to the late Fred and Minnie (Ness) Meyer. On May 3, 1947, Joyce married Gerald J. Martin; he preceded her in death on February 22, 2013. Joyce was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and its Rosary Society. She was also involved as a volunteer at St. Joseph Catholic School and the Red Cross Bloodmobile. She was an RN at Adams County Memorial Hospital and Community Care Center and retired January 1, 1987 from nursing. Joyce was a member of the St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association. She received her nursing education through the military Cadet program. Joyce touched so many lives in her work as a nurse, and her kindness and generosity to those in need. She was a wonderful example of the spirit of giving. She loved her family and treasured her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who gave her such joy. She had a very special group of friends who were her "breakfast club" and "card partners". Survivors include her three sons, John P. (Connie R.) Martin of Kokomo, IN, Robert J. (Barbara) Martin of Terre Haute, IN and Roger A. (Linda) Martin of Palm Harbor, FL; two daughters, Anne T. Liechty and Beth A. Ralston both of Louisville, KY; 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers and a sister. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2018 at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home. Reciting of the Holy Rosary will be prior to visitation at 3:20 p.m. A 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial is on Saturday, March 3rd at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with calling prior from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at the St. Mary's Parish Hall. Clark Edward Matson

Clark Edward Matson, 92, of Avilla passed away Friday, December 22, 2017, at his residence. He was born April 15, 1925, in Pleasant Lake to Oscar Lewis and Vella Ima (Metzler) Matson. On September 2, 1955, in Avilla he married Annabelle Schlupp. Mr. Matson was a graduate of Pleasant Lake High School and Tri-State University. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943 to 1946. He worked as an associate manager of the J.C. Penney Store in Ionia, Michigan. He was also the business manager of the LaGrange County Hospital, executive manager of the Irene Byron Hospital and the American Lung Association of Northeast Indiana. Clark was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Avilla and Avilla American Legion Post 240. Surviving are his wife, Annabelle Matson of Avilla; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Georgia Ellen and Robert Zimmerman of Kendallville and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, James Matson, Richard Matson, and Donald Matson; and two sisters, Jeanette Gordon and Marjorie Saurer. Private funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Rev. Sandra J. McAlkich, 73, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2018 at her home in Fort Wayne. Born in Houtzdale, PA, to the late Herman and Minty Smeal. Sandra graduated from Moshannon Valley HS in 1962 and earned her accounting degree from Indiana University. She was a self-employed accountant for several years. Sandra and her husband William had accomplished her bucket list of spending at least one night in all 50 states. She loved traveling and often planned their destinations around the location of a golf course, casino or bingo hall. Sandra was an avid fisherman, hunter and bowler and was a Steelers and Penn State football fan as well as little league and professional baseball. Roger A. Means

Roger A. Means, 67, of Auburn passed away Sunday, February 4, 2018, at Lake James in Angola. He was born November 11, 1950, in Auburn to the late John and Deloris (Warstler) Means. Roger served his country during the Vietnam War era and was a veteran of the United States Army. Roger worked in the maintenance department and as a janitor for the DeKalb Central School Corporation for 35 years, retiring in 2013. He married Carol J. (Staudt) Havey on September 13, 2003, in Auburn, and she survives. Roger enjoyed fishing, garage sales, antiquing, grilling, visiting with friends and fixing things, but his true passion in life was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Also surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Troy and Krista Means of Auburn; stepchildren and their spouses, Chris Havey of Fort Wayne, Janell and Pete Yonkman of Bloomington and Matt and Rachael Havey of Indianapolis; six grandchildren, Kale Means, Emma Havey, Leo Yonkman, Vic Yonkman, Dean Havey and Renley Havey; and three sisters and a brother-in-law, Marlene and Hal Williams of Auburn, Dian Balzer of Auburn and Cindy Means of Auburn. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center St., Auburn, with visitation from 10-11 a.m. Saturday prior to the service. The Rev. Elizabeth "Liz" Miller, 83, of Goshen, passed away at 1:35 am on Thursday, February 8, at Goshen Health Hospital from the result of an apparent heart attack. She was born on January 1, 1935 in Middlebury to Samuel E. and Millie (Bontrager) Weirich. On June 7, 1953 in Middlebury she married Wilbur L. Miller, he survives. Survivors in addition to her husband are a son, Jerry (Janet) Miller of Dayton, OH; four daughters, Connie (Joe) Sample of Goshen, Vickie (Scott) Blaisdell of Ottawa Lake, MI, Kathy (Daniel) Kreager and Wanda (Darrell) Moore all of Goshen; 11 grandchildren, five great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Weaver and Lydia Mae (Paul) Ganger all of Goshen; two brothers, Joas (Pat) Weirich and Samuel (Verna) Weirich, Jr. all of Goshen. She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Enos, Levi, Eli and Manasses Weirich. Liz was a homemaker and had done residential house cleaning. She was an avid sports fan, specifically for the Chicago Cubs and Notre Dame. She was a member of the Jefferson Community Church, enjoyed playing cards, especially with her sister, and loved spending time with her grandchildren. Eric Mock

Eric Mock, 51, passed away on January 6 at Ball Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was born on Dec. 17, 1966 in Muncie, grew up in Dunkirk, and lived in St. Charles, IL and Jay County for most of his life. His late parents were Felma Mock and Jack Mock, and his late sister was Cindy King. Eric graduated from Jay County High School in 1985 with Honors, and studied engineering at Purdue University -- where he ran the campus heavy metal radio station, and outlawed disco. He started his own business, Alliance Productions, which raised funds for children in need, and even coined the phrase 'Shop with A Cop.' A lifelong sports fan, Eric loved the Philadelphia Phillies (for which he ran a popular fan site) and Boilermaker basketball. He was an avid online gamer, reaching the top ranks of Euchre, and winning multiple Strat-o-Matic World Series. Eric always knew how to make people laugh. He always had hope, a smile, or a silly joke to brighten everyone's days. He was survived by his wife of 15 years, Wendy; his two sons, Andrew and Alex (wife, Liz) Mallard; niece Katie King; great niece Quinn Bell; and his beloved kitty, Boo-Boo. Memorial services with be held on Saturday, February 17th at 3 p.m. in Union Chapel Church, 6238 N. 375 W., Bryant. Visitation will be 2-3pm at the church. Michael Molargik

Michael Molargik, age 100, of Garrett passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Miller's Merry Manor in Garrett. He was born in Ege, Indiana on December 7, 1917 to Frank and Frances (Ludwig) Molargik. Mr. Molargik honorably served his country in the United States Army. He was a Purple Heart recipient and served during WWII under General George S. Patton. Mr. Molargik was the oldest living DeKalb County veteran. He married Mary Kuckewich in Terre Haute, Indiana on August 21, 1948. She preceded him in death on October 23, 2013. Mr. Molargik was a lifelong DeKalb County farmer. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Garrett, a lifetime member of the Garrett Eagles and a lifetime member of the Avilla American Legion Post 240. He enjoyed his Christmas Tours leading up to Christmas and he enjoyed making his famous homemade sausage. Survivors Include: Son and daughter-in-law; Michael and Sharon Molargik of Garrett. Lilliana Louise "Lilly" Morrow, 16, of Waterloo died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Waterloo. Lilly was born in Kendallville on October 6, 2001. Lilly was in her sophomore year at DeKalb High School and was an honor roll student. She was active and took part in several extracurricular activities including tennis, soccer, cross country, show choir and was a member of the Student Leadership Team. She was a hostess and waitress at Richards Restaurant in Auburn for the past year. Lilly's dream was to become a funeral director and had hopes of owning her own funeral home. She loved to do crossword, jig saw puzzles and crochet. Jackie is survived by her two daughters Renee Mullen-Sharp of Fort Wayne and Kellie Mullen of Overland Park, KS; three brothers, Robert (Lorraine) DeRoche, James (Joyce) DeRoche and Gerald (Georgiannia) DeRoche; a sister, Patricia Milne; a sister-in-law, Barbara DeRoche; two grandchildren, Alex and Megan Wickingson. Lawrence "Larry" Murphy, 80, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2018. Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Larry was the son of the late William and Marie Murphy. Larry was a truck driver for many years prior to working at Scotts as a merchandise stocker for ten years prior to retirement. Larry loved to be out in the public and being social. Surviving are his children, Mike (Lacy) Murphy of TX, Brian (Amanda) Murphy of Bryan, OH, Lisa (Cavin) Gray, Dawn (Bryan) Philpot, Kyle Murphy, Danny (Sarah) Murphy all of Fort Wayne, and twenty grandchildren. Larry was preceded in death by his siblings, Margaret White, Annie Murphy, Helen Pluto, Mary Smith, Kathy Murphy, Florence Murphy, Frank, Bob, Bill, and Eddie Murphy. Gracie (Crager) Dangler Neeley

Gracie Dangler Neeley, 89, of Waterloo passed away Friday, February 2, 2018, at Kingston Care Center of Fort Wayne. She was born May 23, 1928, in Hueysville, Kentucky, to the late Kendall and Dovie (Shepard) Crager. Gracie married Don William Dangler on July 25, 1945, in Kendallville, and he passed away Nov. 17, 1980. She married L.B. Neeley on March 29, 1992, in Waterloo, and he passed away March 27, 2007. She served as Vice President of Indiana Decorative Products in Waterloo, retiring in 1993. Gracie was a member of the Waterloo Freewill Baptist Church. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed the outdoors and was most known for her black raspberry jelly. Gracie's love in life was surrounding herself with family, especially hosting her children and grandchildren. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry and Jamal Anabtawi of Fort Wayne and Susan and Mitchell Kruse of Auburn; 10 grandchildren, Michelle Schlotterback, Brad (Shannon) Dangler, Shannon (Jason) Fleming, Stephanie Dangler, Gina Anabtawi, Zane Anabtawi, Megan (Daniel) Schmitz, Kelsey (Zachary) Herber, Lilly Kruse and Haley Kruse; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband Don William Dangler; second husband L.B. Neeley; two sons, Rex Dangler and Donnie Dangler; grandson Jeff Dangler; and 11 brothers and sisters. Services will be 1 p.m. Monday, February 5, 2018, at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 875 S. Wayne St., Waterloo, with the Rev. Ron Stambaugh officiating. Burial will take place in Waterloo Cemetery. Catherine Negele, age 35, of Portland passed away Sunday in Randolph County. She was born December 9, 1982 the daughter of Matt and Susan (Mills) Adair. She was a 2001 Monroe Central High School graduate. She worked for FCC in Portland. Surviving are her parents Matt and Susan Adair of Portland, one son Dylan Negele of Portland, two daughters Dallas Negele and Paitynn Meyers of Portland. Kenneth E. Niebel

Kenneth E. Niebel, 76, passed away February 27, 2018. He was the son of the late Raymond and Martha Niebel. Kenneth worked at Jefferson Smurfit for 40 years before his retirement in 2003. He married Colleen in 1962 and they have shared 55 years of marriage together. Kenneth was a member of the Sons of the Legion Post 42. His hobbies included golfing, playing pool, and IU basketball. Surviving are his wife Colleen (McAdams) Niebel; sons, Kenneth E. Niebel Jr. of Cincinnati, OH, and Timothy J. Niebel of Ft. Wayne, IN; grandchildren, Tessa Niebel and Teanna Niebel of Fort Wayne; and Trey Niebel of Cincinnati, OH; sister, Barbara Racino, of Lakeway, TX; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond D. Niebel Jr.; and sisters, Marjorie Fate, Phyllis (Joan) Niebel, and Elizabeth Lewis. Adeline "Addie" M. Norris, age 72, of Butler passed away on Monday, February 5, 2018 at Laurels of DeKalb Nursing Home in Butler. Mrs. Norris was born on March 3, 1945 in Milaca, Minnesota to Hubert and Blanche (Girard) Jansen. She married Kenneth H. Norris in Waterloo on December 7, 1966. He preceded her in death on May 27, 1996. Mrs. Norris worked at Dura Automotive in Butler for 7 years retiring in 2004. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Waterloo. Gavino C. Olvera

Gavino C. Olvera, 69, of Rome City died Monday, February 12, 2018, at 5:27 a.m. at the home of his daughter in Decatur. He was born February 19, 1948, in Donna, Texas, to Ismael and San Juana (Casteñeda) Olvera. On September 24, 1972, in Rome City he married Jeraldine K. Broom. She survives in Rome City. Mr. Olvera moved to this area in 1968, coming from Texas. He was a farm and field worker, as well as a general laborer. Gavino enjoyed interacting with youth sports and coached little league at Rome City. He loved sports, NASCAR, wrestling and was a fan of Elvis Presley. He dearly loved his grandchildren. Also surviving are two daughters, Dallas (Tony) James of Decatur and Donna T. Olvera of LaGrange; three sons, Gavino C. (Sarah) Olvera, Jr. of Croton on the Hudson, New York, Gerald C. Olvera of Croton on the Hudson, New York, and Gambit L. Zackery (Rick) Rod Ormiston

Zackery (Rick) Rod Ormiston, 63, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2018. Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Zackery was the son of the late Rodney Earl and Shirley Hope Ormiston. Rick was a dedicated husband, father, papaw, brother, uncle and friend. He shared his passion for quality, fantasy sports, wisecracks, and all things "geek" with anyone with an ear to bend. Rick graduated from Northrop High School in 1973 and Purdue University. He held certifications issued by the American Society for Quality for Quality Engineer, Quality Auditor and Manager of Quality. Most recently Rick was Supplier Quality Engineer at Dexter Axle in Elkhart, IN but spent most of his working years at Slater Steel, Fort Wayne, Indiana. He liked sports; especially football. He enjoyed analyzing data, large and small. He was a problem solver and thrived on digging out data for use in business and personal applications. He was the hat and beard guy and always had a comeback, joke or pun to share. He had a big laugh and smile and was a cheerleader for all he knew. Although he struggled with speaking, at times, his written heartfelt messages of encouragement, congratulations or sympathy were thoughtful and had a lot of meaning. He was very proud of his family and loved to watch them excel at whatever activities they chose. Oscar E. Ousley, age 87, of Garrett died Saturday, February 24, 2018 at DeKalb Health in Auburn. He was born on July 7, 1930 in Hippo, Kentucky. Mr. Ousley enjoyed collecting and working on clocks of all kinds. He always had a large garden and had the best vegetables and he liked to share with his family and friends. Donna Carol Owens

Donna Carol Owens, 54, of Stroh died Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne. She had been battling cancer for the last year. She was born September 4, 1963, in LaGrange to Jackie and Carolyn (Ritchie) Owens. Donna was employed as a mail carrier for the Kendallville Post Office where she had served for several years. She was a member of the Kendallville VFW Post 2749 Auxiliary. Donna enjoyed flowers, gardening, and canning, which she loved sharing with others. She loved reading and being with family and friends. She thoroughly enjoyed the people on her mail route. Surviving are two daughters, Samantha Schnurr of Fort Wayne and Jessica Schnurr of Kendallville; a granddaughter, Aryana Owens; her mother, Carolyn Owens of Stroh; a brother, Tim (Lisa) Owens of Stroh; a niece, Chelsea Owens of Denver, Colorado; and a nephew, Jackie Owens of Stroh. She was preceded in death by her father, Jackie Owens on November 17, 1993. Jackie L. Palmer

Jackie L. Palmer, age 62, of Marshall, MI passed away at the VA hospital in Ann Arbor, MI Sunday, February 11, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 23, 1955 the son of Lindy F. and Ella S. (Farmer) Palmer. Jackie was a high school graduate of Marshall High School. He proudly served in the United States Army Reserve. Jackie loved fishing. He was a Semi- Pro, who participated in Bass tournaments all over Michigan and Northern Indiana. Jackie was one of the founding fathers of the Calhoun County Bass Club. He was an APA Pool League Operator for 15 years, and went on to create the PEP Pool League, which is still going today. Jackie also enjoyed poker and golfing. He was a fun loving guy who loved to joke. Judy J. Reed, 71, of Monticello and longtime resident of Bluffton, passed away on Friday afternoon, February 16, 2018, at I.U. Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette, Indiana. Judy was born on January 20, 1947 in Bluffton to James W. & Ruby E. (Reeder) Ogle. She attended Chester Center to the 10th grade and graduated in 1965 from Nordhoff High School in California. On September 8, 1991, Judy and Dennis L. Reed were married and have shared the last 26+ years together. Judy enjoyed a lifelong career in Banking, working for Three Rivers Credit Union and was the branch manager of Bluffton location from 1986 to 2012. She was very involved with Dennis and passionate about the Drags Not Drugs Program and travel and raced all over the country together. She loved to collect owls and was a member of the Brush & Broads Plus 1 group that met to paint on Fridays in Bluffton, and was a member of the Poneto United Methodist Church. She is preceded in death by a daughter, Latisha. Survivors include Dennis of Monticello, three children; Kelly Gibbs of Bluffton, Mike (Jodee) McCarty of Toledo, Ohio and Mark (Laura) Reed of Fort Wayne along with seven grandchildren; Christopher (wife Jessica), Tyler, Jayden, Blake, Olivia, Aiden and Evelyn, and a brother Jim Bob (Linda) Ogle of Poneto. Judy is also survived by her baby, Jake, a Jack Russell Terrier. A Service to celebrate Judy's life will be held at 12:30 P.M. on Saturday (Feb. 24th) at the Poneto United Methodist Church with Pastor Roy Nevil officiating. She spent her childhood on a farm in Bryan, Ohio with her 4 siblings: Lorna Luegring, Willis, James and Lloyd. Kathleen was a bank-teller in Ft Wayne, until she met Allen Riley and married in 1961 and started their family and was blessed with 3 sons, John A. (Merrill) of Richmond, VA; Richard (Shelly) of Valrico, FL; and Roger of Lansing, MI. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren and a great-grandson, Wade. Kathleen was a wonderful wife and mother. She enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her boys. Gardening was one of her passions along with various types of crafts throughout her life. Kathleen was a people person, and loved being together with family and friends. She was a devoted Christian and a member of Rothman Road Church of Christ. Vernon Ritchie

Vernon Ritchie, 77, of Stroh died Saturday, February 10, 2018, at his residence. He was born December 18, 1940, in Vest, Kentucky, to Cephas and Myrtle (Williams) Ritchie. On January 25, 1969, in Stroh he married Patty Sue Shepherd. She survives in Stroh. Mr. Ritchie moved to this area in 1955, coming from Kentucky. He honorably served in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1965 during the Vietnam War. He retired in 2007 from Jayco in Topeka. Mr. Ritchie attended Community Baptist Church and was a member of American Legion Post 215 in LaGrange. Vernon enjoyed fishing, especially in bass tournaments, playing Texas Hold'em, and sitting on the front porch talking, telling stories, and sipping coffee. He loved spending time with friends and his grandkids, and was greatly loved by all. Also surviving are a daughter, Natalie Sue (Brett) Capman of Stroh; two sons, Tony Lynn Ritchie of Stroh and Alan Lee Ritchie of Stroh; two grandchildren, Sierra Kay (Gage) Meyer and Chase Harrison Ritchie; and two sisters, Lois Everage of LaGrange and Carolyn Owens of Stroh. He was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Combs. Thomas F. Ruble, 58, of Monroeville, Indiana passed away Wednesday evening at his residence. He was born on June 8, 1959 in Adams County, Indiana to Tom A. & Carolyn R. (Hakes) Ruble. Tom was united in marriage to Pamela J. Andrews on June 2, 1979 at First Missionary Church in Fort Wayne. Tom was a 1977 graduate of Heritage High School in Monroeville. He was owner & operator of Performance Truck Sales, Inc. in Monroeville & was previously an owner and operator of Tom Ruble & Sons Truck Sales in Monroeville. He was a member of Fellowship Missionary Church in Fort Wayne & Gideon's International. His greatest mission in life was to lead others to the Lord. Tom liked fast cars, tractors, and spending time with family, which was his passion. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with Pam. He was a man of God and lived his life by being supportive of others. He took pride in being a husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and grandfather. He was philanthropic at heart and was a hero to many who had the privilege to know him...he will be dearly missed. Susan K. Salter, 69, a lifetime resident of Van Buren, IN, left this world surrounded by her loved ones at 5:51 PM on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. Susie enjoyed all aspects of sporting events especially those that her Grandchildren were involved in and Indiana University, Pacers and Colts. Her hobbies were centered on crocheting, gardening and taking care of her kitties. Gregory S. Schmitt M.D., F.A.C.S., 63, passed away Sunday, February 4, 2018 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. Born in Woodstock, IL, Greg retired as a Cardiac Surgeon with Parkview Hospital. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Greg and his family moved to Fort Wayne in 1989 after completing his fellowship at St. Louis University. He attended Bradley University, Peoria, IL and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science, Biology in 1976. Greg received his Medical Doctorate in 1980 from the University of Illinois College of Medicine-Chicago, where he was awarded the Warren H. Cole Scholar and was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. His postgraduate training included a Fellowship in Cardio Thoracic training at St. Louis University and Administrative Chief Resident, Department of Surgery at University of Illinois. His certifications included Diplomat, American Board of Thoracic Surgery, American Board of Surgery, and American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Greg held many past positions including Attending Cardio Thoracic Surgeon with Parkview Hospital; Medical Director at Parkview Hospice and St. Joseph's Hospital; Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery, Indiana University School of Medicine; Chairman, Section of Cardio Thoracic Surgery, Surgical Executive Committee, Parkview Hospital, and Maj., (ret), 122nd Medical Squadron with the Indiana Air National Guard. Greg was currently a member of the Board of Directors St. Joseph Community Foundation, Catholic Charities, the Western Golf Association Evans Scholar Foundation, and was a member of Dutch Treat Investments. Greg previously served on the board of Anthony-Wayne Services and was a Past-President of Anthony Wayne Area Council Boy Scouts of America, and Fort Wayne-Allen County Board of Health. He was a leader of BSA Troop 333, and coached 7th grade football at Woodside Middle School. Greg was an avid Cubs fan as well as an avid golfer and a USGA Rules Official. He was a member of Fort Wayne Country Club and Bear's Paw Country Club in Naples, FL. Surviving are his spouse of 36 years, Jane (Lowery) Schmitt, Fort Wayne; two sons, David S. John D. "Dave" Schultz

John D. "Dave" Schultz, CW3 (Ret.), 82, passed away on Friday, Feb.16, 2018. Born in Decatur, IL, and raised in Los Angeles, CA, Dave was a 1953 graduate of Belmont High School. He enjoyed traveling the world for 22 ½ years with the United States Army during which time he earned an associate degree from Purdue University, Fort Wayne, in 1960, and a bachelor's degree from the University of Omaha, Omaha, Nebraska, in 1969. As a Private, Dave's military career began in the United States working on guided missiles at Fort Bliss, TX, Fort Lawton, WA, and Fort MacArthur, CA. Advancing through the ranks, he served as a Meteorologist at Frankford Arsenal, Philadelphia, PA, and served four tours at Redstone Arsenal, AL, in the U.S. Army Missile Support Command and U.S. Army Metrology & Calibration Center. Overseas assignments included three tours at Fort Buckner, Okinawa. Promoted to Warrant Officer, he served as Team Chief of a U.S. Army Pacific Calibration Agency Transfer Team that supported military units in Taiwan, Thailand, Philippines, Korea, Vietnam, and Okinawa. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving as a Senior Calibration Advisor to the South Vietnamese Army. During his final overseas tour of 3 ½ years, as Chief of the Secondary Reference Laboratory Division, he supervised calibration and repair support for twenty-two U.S. Army and two Federal Republic of Germany calibration teams. Dave enjoyed German volksmarching, completing 1000 kilometers and a 42 kilometer marathon, and collecting local town beer glasses and steins. Military honors included the Commendation Medal, Third Oak Leaf Cluster; Bronze Star; Distinctive Insignia of the Signal Corps-Republic of Vietnam Armed Forces; Republic of Vietnam Staff Service Medal, Second Class; German Army Marksmanship Award in Bronze, and U.S. Army Meritorious Service Medal. He retired as Chief Warrant Officer (CW3) Ordnance in 1977. Upon returning to civilian life, Dave was employed by Magnavox as a Senior Electronics Technician, retiring in 1995. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne. His interests included membership in the Allen County Practical Defense League and taking instructions at Gunsite and Thunder Ranch. He enjoyed reuniting with his Army buddies at the Indy 500, and relaxing in his basement which he remodeled to display his travel memorabilia and record collection. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Marilyn (Woerner) Schultz, daughters, Dianne (Michael) Snider of Fort Wayne; Karla (Neil) Bowles of Cottonwood Heights, UT; grandsons, Austin, Ryan, Logan Snider, and Ethan Bowles, sister Paula Farney, Huntington Beach, CA., and loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, and long-time friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John E. Schultz and Esther (nee Rentfro) Wilson, stepmother Agnes Clarke Schultz, and brother-in-law Peter Farney. Donald D. Shipe, 78, of Ashley died Saturday, February 24, 2018, at 1:20 a.m. at Auburn Villages in Auburn. He was born August 9, 1939, in Waterloo to Cecil and Lois (Johnson) Shipe and was a lifelong Ashley resident. On March 7, 1964, in Union City, Michigan, he married Martha E. Peck. Mr. Shipe was a member of the Cedar Lake Church of Christ and a 50-year member of the Ashley Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, York Rite, and the Ashley OES. He served as past Master and Secretary of the Ashley Masonic Lodge for 40 years. He was the financial secretary of UAW 825 in Auburn for 33 years and a former fire fighter for Ashley. He also held several positions within community government for the town of Ashley. Don was an avid Cleveland Indians fan and enjoyed fishing. But, for him, family was always first and he dearly loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Surviving are his wife, Martha E. Shipe of Ashley; a son, Dean (Shelley) Shipe of Ashley; a daughter, Diane (Scott) Hines of Fort Wayne; six grandchildren, Nick Shipe, Laurie Shipe, Brandon Thews, Bradee Thews, Chloë Hines, and Chase Hines; and six great-grandchildren, Ayden Jones, Raylin Akey, Hartley Akey, Brooklyn Hines, Brayden Hines, and Bentley Hines. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Ann Pearson; a granddaughter, Chelsea Hines; and a great-grandson, Boston Hines. Melvin E. Shrock, 76, of Markesan, WI, passed away Sunday, February 25, at church of an apparent heart attack. He was born May 29, 1941 in Geauga County, OH to Elmer and Edna (Miller) Shrock. He was a member of the Old Order Amish Church, where he was ordained minister in 1969. He is survived by his wife, Mary Esther (Miller) Shrock, whom he married January 10, 1985. He was first married to Edna Ellen (Miller) Shrock, who preceded him in death January 8, 1953. Miriam (Leffel) Shultz

Miriam L. Shultz, 88, of Wolcottville died Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne. She was born October 26, 1929, in Miami County to Albert and Elizabeth (Hoover) Leffel. On January 22, 1950, in South Milford she married Ralph E. Shultz. He preceded her in death on January 18, 1983. She worked for a few years at Kirsch in Sturgis, Michigan. She and her family farmed and currently own and operate the South Milford Grain Company in South Milford. She was a member of the Kendallville congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Surviving are a daughter, Susan (Eric) Simanton of LaGrange; five sons, Blake (Tammy) Shultz of Carbondale, Colorado, Mark (Cathy) Shultz of Hudson, Tim (Susie) Shultz of Wolcottville, Gale (Cathy) Shultz of Wolcottville, and Rex (Tammy) Shultz of Hudson; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Hazel Ridyard of Oceanside, California. Beverly Jean Silvers, 68, of Rome City and formerly of Bedford died Monday, December 25, 2017, at 11:40 p.m. at Parkview Noble Hospital, Kendallville. She was born February 13, 1949, in Yakima, Washington, to Roy Welker and Marie Taylor. Her parents preceded her in death. She married Donnie Silvers, Sr., and he preceded her in death on July 24, 2009. Mrs. Silvers previously worked at Dura Automotive in Brownstown, which she thoroughly enjoyed. James W. Sines

James W. Sines, age 81, died February 9, 2018, at his home in Fort Wayne, IN. Jim's professional career spanned over 50 years as a financial executive in the banking, business appraisal and brokerage services in California, Utah and Fort Wayne. Jim was a Sr. Vice President and Trust Officer for Fort Wayne National Bank and President of Sines & Company. He was the son of the late Kenneth and Mabel M. "Shaffer" Sines. Jim is survived by his former wife Joyce Sines, sister in law Carolyn Sines and niece Linda Orendorff. Jim loved fly fishing, bird hunting with his dog and readings of the Dicken's Christmas Carol. AUBURN - Joan Smith, age 83, of Auburn, Indiana, passed away Monday, February 19, 2018, in Auburn, Indiana. Mrs. Smith was born on October 19, 1934, in Sturgis, Michigan, to Neil and Marjorie West. She lived most of her life in LaGrange County, moving to Auburn 11 years ago. On September 11, 1954, in Sturgis, Michigan, she married Don W. Smith. They spent over 62 years together and raised four children. Mr. Smith survives in Auburn. She retired from the LaGrange County Library in 2007. She was an avid reader, and loved to sew, bake, paint and play euchre. She was member of the Red Hats Club. Also surviving are four daughters, LeeAnn Pearce of Winamac, Indiana, Terry (Randy) VanWagner of LaGrange, Indiana, Tracy (Russ) Warner of Auburn, Indiana, and Kelly (Joe) Mattes of Auburn, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Stacey VanWagner, Michael (Jodi) Pearce, Melody Fisher, Stefanie (Ryan) Ramsey, Megan Leazenby, Bonnie (Brian) Wellman and Holly Warner; and two great-grandsons, Aiden and Cooper Ramsey. John C. (JC) Smith

John C. (JC) Smith, 80, of Ashley died unexpectedly Sunday, February 11, 2018, at his residence. He was born August 4, 1937, in DeKalb County to Franklin Joseph and Violet Juanita (Resoner) Smith. Mr. Smith honorably served in the U.S. Air Force from 1956 to 1960. On September 10, 1960, in Auburn he married Janis E. Bacon. She preceded him in death on March 3, 2017. He retired after 40-plus years from Moore Business Forms, now R.R. Donnelley in Angola. He also worked for a short time as a deputy Marshall for the town of Ashley. JC was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Waterloo and former President of the Hudson Town Board. He bowled in Butler for many years. His love of gardening and just being outdoors, led him to be a baseball and basketball coach while his sons were in school. And, he was a Tri-County baseball umpire for Steuben and DeKalb County high schools for several years. Surviving are three sons, Jeff Smith of Angola, Joe (Tammy) Smith of Hamilton, and Jim (Andrea) Smith of Surprise, Arizona; six grandchildren, Brady Smith, Tristan Smith, Karli Smith, Teegan Smith, Leigha Gulliver, and Dax Gulliver; and a brother, Larry (Sue) Smith of Newberry, Florida. Norma W. (Sharp) Smith, 91, of Montpelier, IN, passed away at 11:52 AM on Tuesday, February 06, 2018 at IU Health Blackford Hospital in Hartford City, IN. She was born on Thursday, January 27, 1927, in Blackford County, IN. She married Joe E. Smith on Wednesday, April 21, 1948 in St. Margaret's Catholic Church, Montpelier; . Norma was a 1945 graduate of Roll High School in Blackford County, IN. As a young gal she worked at Ledbetters, until she had her four children, then she stayed at home to raise them. She also worked for a while at Warren United Methodist Home (Heritage Pointe) and was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader. From the early 70's until the early 90's Norma worked at Gripco in Montpelier. She was a member of the Millard Brown American Legion Auxiliary #156, Psi Iota Xi, Montpelier Fireman Auxiliary, DAR, Dinner Bell Band and the former St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Montpelier. After the church closed in Montpelier, Norma attended St. John's Catholic Church in Hartford City. She enjoyed making her world famous popcorn balls, IU Basketball, horse harness racing and researching her family genealogy. Norma never judged anyone and loved her friends and family no matter what. Ruth Ann (Leffers) Stapleton

Ruth Ann (Leffers, Maloney) Stapleton, age 86, of Fort Wayne, passed away on February 27th. Born September 25th, 1931 in Arcola, Indiana, Ruth was the daughter of the late Edward George, and Bertha Alvina (Buettner) Leffers. Ruth graduated from Arcola High School in 1949. Ruth's first marriage was to John William Maloney. He preceded her in death on the 6th of June 1957. Ruth's second marriage was to Donald E. Stapleton in December of 1967. He preceded her in death in March of 2004. While devotedly raising her five young children, she was employed at St. Vincent De Paul School as a cafeteria cook. She later took a position at International Harvester, and then labored as a housewife. Mrs. Stapleton was an active member of St. Vincent De Paul Church for over 60 years. She supported many causes, and her work as a volunteer member of the National Alliance for the Mentally III (NAMI) was especially important to her. Surviving are four sons, a step son, and a daughter, Michael (Susan) Maloney of Ossian, Donald (Marsha) Maloney Middlebury, Ronald Maloney, Nicholas Maloney, Kenneth Stapleton all of Fort Wayne, and Ann(a) M. Nancy A. Steffens, 90, passed away Friday, February 9, 2018 at Parkview Hospital Randallia in Fort Wayne. Born in Cedarville, Nancy worked as an obstetric technician, unit clerk, and time coder from 1966 to 1993 with Parkview Memorial Hospital. She was previously employed by Indiana Bank Money Order Division. Nancy was a 1945 graduate of Leo High School. She was a lifelong resident of Cedarville, living the majority of her life in the house her father built when she was an infant. She married Floyd Steffens in 1946 in her parent's home and he preceded in her death in 1992. She was a member of Cedarville Community Church and St. Vincent de Paul Parish, Parkview Ambassadors, and Leo American Legion Auxiliary. She served the Leo-Cedarville Community Park as board member and later as volunteer from 1997-2012 handling sign and pavilion rentals. Surviving are her sons, Marcus G. (Jan) Steffens of Lutz, FL and Paul Steffens of Leo-Cedarville, IN; 3 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Nancy was preceded in death by husband, Floyd I. He was an avid Harley rider and loved his dogs, Harley & Boomer. His family & job were very important to him. He is survived by his wife, Bonny R. Robert J. Stine, 87, of Auburn died Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, at the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne. Mr. Stine worked as an optician for Fort Wayne Optical for 19 years and later owned and operated his own mechanic shop. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Auburn. He was born March 25, 1930, in Aitkin, Minnesota to the late Arland and Julia (Wiederholt) Stine. He married Janet J. Harsh on February 19, 1955, in Fort Wayne, and she died Jan. 3, 2011. John William Stuck

John William Stuck, 82, of Angola died Saturday, December 9, 2017, at 3:20 p.m. in I.U. Health University Hospital in Indianapolis. He had resided in Angola since 2001, coming from Kendallville. Mr. Stuck retired in 1997 from Kraft Foods in Kendallville after working there for 30 years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960 and in the National Guard from 1960 to 1963. He was born July 2, 1935, in Van Wert, Ohio, to George F. and Rose Christine (Shaw) Stuck. On June 27, 1964, in Auburn he married Linda Ellen Sanderson. She preceded him in death on July 9, 2014. Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Stephanie Christine "Chris" and Darren Wagner of Angola and Faith Aprilrose "April" Stuck of Avilla; a son, Jeffrey Stuck of California; two grandchildren, Tony (Melinda) Wagner and Katelynd Heuts; four great-grandchildren, Julia Binns, Genieve Heuts, Amy Heuts, and Lucille Wagner; and three sisters, Bonita Becher of Fremont, Mary Eldridge of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Georgia Lang of Beaver Creek, Ohio. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Chapman and Virginia Calkins and a brother, Franklin G. Stuck. Paul Eugene Underwood

Paul Eugene Underwood, 86, passed away Friday, February 16, 2018. He was born in Fort Wayne, IN on September 15, 1931, the son of the late Harry and Blanche Underwood. Paul was a 1953 graduate of Indiana University where he played baseball. He was voted most valuable player for the 1953 season and was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds. Rather than playing MLB, Paul served in the US Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1955. Paul was the Executive Vice President of N.B.D. Bank, formerly known as the People's Trust Bank. Paul was a member of St. Nicholas Eastern Orthodox Church. He also served as the President of the Central Lion's Club. Paul received the honor of being the 50 year "I" man at Indiana University. Surviving are his children; Dr. Steven (Sheila) Underwood, Thomas (Deborah) Underwood, John (Deb) Underwood, James (Ann) Underwood, and Paul M. Geraldine Warstler, 94, of Middlebury died suddenly on Saturday, February 24 while dining in Englewood, FL. She was born June 8, 1923 to Clarence and Wilma (Swartz) Varns. On November 25, 1948 in Middlebury she married Dean Warstler; he died August 27, 2013. Surviving are three daughters, Wanda (Ron) Miller of Goshen, Diane (Carl) Eash of Middlebury, Bonnie Warstler of Elkhart; five grandchildren, Joey (Nanette) Eash, Jaynie (Mike) Kirby, Nicholas (Michelle) Miller, Nathan (Cait) Miller, and Natalie Miller; four great grandchildren, Layne and Nolan Kirby, Tristan Miller, and Kirsten Miller and an additional great grandchild expected soon; three step great granddaughters, Kendall, Taylor, and Courtney Sharpe; sister Nancy (Goodrich) Simmons of Glendale, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband who was the love of her life. Gerry and Dean were co-owners of Varns & Hoover Hardware, Middlebury, since 1970 and she worked at the store for 30 years. She attended Wheaton College. As a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church in Middlebury, she served as a Sunday School Teacher for many years and was a member of UMW (United Methodist Women) now called SOS (Sisters Of Strength). They spent winters at The Plantation Golf & Country Club in Venice, FL since 1982. While there, they attended Christ United Methodist Church. She was active in the cookie ministry, Shawls of Prayer, and attended many Bible Study groups. She was also very involved with Bible Study Fellowship in Goshen for many years. In March, 1946, at the age of 21, Gerry was involved in a serious plane crash that nearly took her life. This event shaped her faith and determination. She treasured her life and lived life to the fullest to the very end when she took her last breath. She loved her Lord and Savior and began each day in prayer and devotion. She was a true prayer warrior. Gerry and her husband visited and helped many ill members in the community. Everyone was her friend. They were 1998 Summer Festival Parade Marshals and were the recipients of the Book of Golden Deeds Award in 2002. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Goshen General Hospital, and Good News Club. She taught crocheting to the children at the Boys and Girls Club in Middlebury where she was a faithful cookie baker. She enjoyed crocheting baby caps for the hospital and sewing pillow case dresses for third world country ministries. She was a member of Middlebury Home Extension Club for over 60 years. Gerry loved to travel and her passion was to be surrounded by family and friends. Her love for crocheting was apparent as her hands were never idle. She also loved to cook and entertain guests in their home. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00pm on Friday, March 2 at First United Methodist Church of Middlebury. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, March 3 also at the church. Services will be conducted by Pastor Ron Russell. Burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery, Middlebury. James L. Williams

James L. Williams, 71, passed away on January 31, 2018. He was born in Fort Wayne, IN on March 28, 1946, the son of the late Porter and Frances Williams. James was in the US Navy from 1963 to 1969. He worked at General Electric as a Specialty Transformer Coil Winder for 32 years until his retirement in 1997. Upon his retirement he became quite the cook and enjoyed having dinner ready and on the table. James also like dancing, and fishing. One of his most notable qualities was that he had an amazing memory. He enjoyed talking about his childhood and could name dates, times and address of places he use to delivery papers to on his paper route. Surviving are his loving wife of 51 years, Sandy Williams; children, Tamera Preston, Lori (Brian) Williams, Angela (Todd) Abke, and Jimmy (Tracy) Williams II; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; siblings, Jeff (Rene) Williams, John (Becky) Williams, Cheryl (Paul) Parker, and Pam Nuttles. Jon Michael Witmer, 74, of Middlebury, died at 7:40 pm on Sunday, February 11, at his residence as a result of cancer. He was born on October 1, 1943 in Elkhart County, to Ellis and Verda (Tyson) Witmer. On July 5, 1981 in Elkhart County he married Carol Brown; she survives. Survivors in addition to his wife are two daughters, Tina Marie Cooper-Viruez of Goshen, Teresa Ann Cooper-Grissom of Kalamazoo, MI; four granddaughters, Brittany, Jessica, Melissa and Gabrielle. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Charles and Merlin Witmer. Jon was a proud member of the American Legion Post 210 and two gun clubs, Elkhart Rifle and Pistol Club and the Edwardsburg Rifle and Pistol Club having served on the board for both for many years. He was proud of his service in the U.S. Army where he served as Procurement Officer and an assistant Army Chaplain. He was a longtime resident of Middlebury where he worked for Clarence Varns at Varns and Hoover Hardware for many years. He was a tool and Die Maker for most of his life and also a purchasing agent for Coachman Industries. He loved spending time with family and talking to people and joking around. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bristol. Visitation will be from 2:00 - 4:00 and6:00 - 8:00 pm Wednesday, February 14, and for one hour prior to the 10:30 am funeral service on Thursday, February 15, all at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 South Main Street Middlebury.
