Fred Owen Zimmerman, 74 of Crawfordsville went to be with his beloved wife, Patti, in heaven on Thursday, April 18, 2019 at Franciscan Health Lafayette East.
He was born in Crawfordsville on May 20, 1944 to the late Owen and Beulah (Haase) Zimmerman.
Mr. Zimmerman graduated from Ladoga High School and on Sept. 6, 1964 in New Market he married the love of his life of 50 years, Patti Gail Morris, who preceded him in death on Aug. 8, 2015. He was a member of the Mace United Methodist Church, was on the New Ross Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years and spent nine years in the Army National Guard in Crawfordsville. Mr. and Mrs. Zimmerman worked together at 4-H Inc. for over 17 years. Mr. Zimmerman worked at Allison Gas Turbine in Indianapolis and retired after 25 years there. He then worked for the State Highway, retiring from there, after 12 years, and also worked for Helping Hand Chauffeur Service. As far as all his jobs, most people knew him as Santa Clause for over 43 years. Mr. Zimmerman loved spending time with his grandchildren, taking them fishing, and being involved with their activities.
Survivors include his son, Bruce (Jenny) Zimmerman; his daughter, Tami (Jeremy) Mussche - both of Crawfordsville; a brother, Tom (Mary) Zimmerman of Rockville; a sister, Delma (John) Torrison of Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Owen and John Zimmerman and Karsyn and Lilli Mussche; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved princess, his dog, Sheena.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 24 at Sanders Priebe Funeral Care in Crawfordsville with Pastor Bruce White officiating. Burial will follow at the Ladoga Cemetery with military honors by Legion Post 72 Honor Guard and the Army National Guard. Family and friends may pay their respects from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 23 at the funeral home.
