Source: Crawfordsville Journal March 8, 1910

Waynetown, March 4 – (sic – this is before his death – should be March 8 as it says died this morning) – About half past 10 this morning, John W. Zerface fell on the sidewalk in front of Darnell Bros. store and expired in a few minutes. He had just taken a drink at the public well and stepped a few feet away when he stooped forward and then went down onto the sidewalk on his face. A number of men were standing on the corner. Some of whom had spoken to him when he came to the well who did not apparently grasp at first that he was ill, but noting that he did not move turned him over and hurried away for a doctor. He was carried into the Farmers & Merchants’ Bank but before Dr. Hamilton arrived life was so nearly extinct that nothing could be done. Within 10 minutes from the time he fell the doctor pronounced him dead. Mr. Zerface was a bachelor and lived with his mother on west Church street, having lived here for the past 30 years. He was about 48 years of age. Besides his mother, he leaves two brothers, Jacob Zerface, living northeast of town, William E, living at Elwood and Mrs. Geo. Warfield, southwest of town. – kbz - thanks to the Proctors and their wonderful Waynetown Cemetery obituary database
