Joseph Emerson (Joe) Zahn, 77, for 58 years a printer and employed 48 years at The Journal-Review and one of its predecessors, The Review, died Tuesday night in Culver Hospital. Mr. Zahn had been stricken Sunday morning while visiting his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Warren C. Ellis of Rt. 5, and was taken to the hospital. He was a native of Tippecanoe County, born Feb. 8, 1887 to Wesley and Mary Stout Zahn. He started in the printing business in Lafayette in 1903, moving from there to Crawfordsville where he began work on The Review as a pressman in 1913. He retired in 1961. He was married here to Mary Atkinson Sept. 19, 1914. She died in 1948. Mr. Zahn was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Ellis, Mrs. Doris Knox of Crawfordsville and Mrs. William Callahan of Norfolk, Va.; three half-brothers and three half-sisters, 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Preceding Mr. Zahn in death besides his wife were twins, son and daughter, in infancy, and a sister and a half-brother. Services are announced for 11 a.m. Friday at Bright Funeral Home. Rev. Fred Hofheinz of St. Bernard's Church will officiate, and burial will be in Masonic Cemetery.
