Wallace, Ind -- Ransom Zackmire, 86, died at 3 p.m. Friday Jan 19, 1979 while en route to the Veteran Administration Hospital in Danville, Ill. He apparently died from a heart condition. Zackmire had worked as a coal miner in the Yeddo, Indiana area and later had been employed by the Veedersburg Foundry until his retirement in 1958. He had been a resident of Wallace since 1956. He also was a veteran of WWI and had been a member of the Hillsboro American Legion. He attended Fountain County schools and had been a member of the Freedom Christian Church in Wallace. Born Oct 14, 1892 in Fountain County, he was a son of Thomas and Susan Bowers Zackmire. He married Mable Bowman Feb 23, 1921. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Donald of Veedersburg Rt. 2 and several nieces, nephews and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 3 sisters and a brother. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Thomas Funeral Home in Waynetown with the Rev. Alfred Dobbs officiating. Burial will be in the Wallace Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
