For 56 years, she has lived in the house near the Vandalia crossing; in fact, before there was any Vandalia. Hers has been a busy life in the service of her family and others -- she was in great demand as a nurse, and there is scarcely a family in this community but has profited by her services. She was of a cheerful disposition and inclined to look on the brighter side of many happenings that were disheartening to others. She was an adept at the loom, and skilled in the many household manufacturers that are now being forgotten. - transcribed by kbz
