COVINGTON — Mrs. Opal. M. Young, age 72, of Crawfordsville, sister of Lelan Stringer of Hollywood, Fla., a former resident and businessman of Covington, died at 6:40 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, in Culver Hospital in Crawfordsville. She had undergone major surgery Friday morning. Mrs. Young was born July 3, 1896 in Putnam County, the daughter of George and Belle Steele Stringer. She married Charles B. Young Aug. 6, 1921 and he is a retired schoolteacher. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and active in its Women's Missionary Society. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Home Testing Institute. Surviving, in addition to the husband, are: two sons, Dr. George R. Young of Kansas City, Mo., and John C. Young of St. Charles, Ill.; one sister, Mrs. Esther Hicks of Ladoga; one brother, Lelan Stringer of Hollywood, Calif.; seven grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. One brother preceded Mrs. Young in death. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Hunt and Son Funeral Home in Crawfordsville. The Rev. Ray Britton of Roachdale officiated. Burial was in the Roachdale Cemetery.
