The Marshall News recalls the sawmill boiler explosion which occurred there Saturday morning, August. 17, 1889. Matthias YOUNG, the engineer, was killed, his body being thrown 45 feet. The boiler itself was thrown a hundred yards. Dan McCall had his wrist broken, but the remainder of the 12 men who were working about the mill escaped injury. Jacob PENCE was working in the mill office when the boiler passed over him, removing the roof. - transcribed by Karen Zach
