Young - George Thomas

George Thomas Young, youngest son of William and Mary Young, was born April 12, 1841 in Jefferson Township, Boone County, Indiana and died Jan 16, 1918, aged 76 years 9 months 4 days, after an illness of more than 8 years with cancer and other complications. He was married in Lebanon, Ind Sept 11, 1862, to Margaret Catherine Burroughs, daughter of Uriel and Leanna Burroughs, of near Shannondale. To this union 10 children were born 4 of whom died in infancy. The eldest daughter, Mrs,. Cornelia Endicott, wife of JD Endicott, died Aug 3, 1908. Four daughters and one son survive: Mrs. Myrtle Campbell of near Dover, Ind; Miss Nora Young of Lebanon; Mrs. AL Loop of Economy, Ind; Mrs. Richard Beesley of near Thorntown, Ind and Otis U. Young of near Dover, Ind but he also leaves 19 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. His wife died Oct 5, 1910 at age 65. In a little more than a year, they would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They lived for almost 40 years on their old home farm. Only one brother is living, John V. Young, who lives on the old Young homestead in Jefferson Twp, where his father settled in 1829, when he emigrated from Hawking County, Tennessee. One half sister, Margaret Caldwell, wife of William Caldwell, deceased, is still living at the advanced age of 95 years. Mr. Young was not a member of any church until late years when he was taken into membership of the Shannondale Presbyterian Church. He often talked of the old church which was his mother’s church and which was organized at the home of his father, William Young, March 17, 1831. His uncle, Rev. Clairborn Young officiated as moderator. Mr. Young was a charter member of K of P Lodge of Shannondale, which was instituted in 1850 - transcribed by kbz
