Roachdale -- Elmer O. Young, 60, prominent north Putnam County farmer and personal friend of Gov. Henry F. Schricker, died Tuesday morning at 10:45 o'clock at the Putnam County Hospital in Greencastle. Mr. Young was employed by the State Gross Income Tax Division prior to his death. He was a member of the Roachdale Christian Church, the Roachdale Masonic Lodge and the Father's Auxiliary of the VFW of the General Jesse M. Lee Post No. 1550 of Greencastle. Mr. Young was borni n Roachdale on June 8, 1891, the son of Americus Samuel and Mary Grantham Young. He married Edna Elder Aug 19, 1910. Survivors are the widow; two daughters, Mrs. Julia Gentry of Waveland and Mrs. Margaret Job of Cloverdale; two sons, John l. Young of Crawfordsville and Dr. EW young of Walla Walla, Wash; four sisters, Mrs. Daisy McHatton of St. Cloud, Fl; Mrs. Ella Carpenter of Chicago; Mrs. Pauline Reese of Waco, Tx; and Mrs. Allie Epperson of Jcksonville, two brothers, Jesse F. Young of Greencastle and Lige Young of Burbank, Calif; and 8 grandchildren. A grandson, Dale Gentry preceded Mr. Young in death. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Roachdale Christian Church, Rev. John Pickering will preach the funeral sermon. The body will lie in state at the church one hour preceding the services. Interment will be in Roachdale Cemetery. Friends may call at the Chastain Funeral Home in Roachdale until noon Thursday. - kbz
