ROCKVILLE – James W. Yates, 72, was found dead early Tuesday at his home, 516 S. Michigan St. He had been in failing health and lived alone. It was believed death had come last Thursday or Friday. Mr. Yates had been custodian at the Rockville Library, the Youth Center and until ill health forced his retirement was custodian at the United Methodist Church. A native of this community, he was a son of Sheridan and Janie Roberts Yates and was born March 30, 1897. He was a member of the former AME Church here. Survivors include four sisters, Mrs. Mattie Goss of Plainfield, Mrs. Jennie Merrill of Cleveland, and Mrs. May King and Mrs. Pearl Perdue of Kokomo, and a brother, Patsy Yates of Toledo. Two sisters and two brothers are deceased. Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Butler Funeral Home, where friends may call at 7-9 p.m. Thursday. Rev. Clifford L. Miller will officiate, with interment in Rockville Cemetery. – jlr
