Wyand - Ralph Bovey

Ralph Bovey Wyand, 1927 graduate of Wabash College, died Monday in Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Sarasota, Fla. Mr. Wyand had retired to Florida after a lifelong career in elementary and secondary education and administration. He made his home at 2447 Gulf Gate Drive, Sarasota. In addition to the Bachelor of Arts degree from Wabash, Wyand held a master’s degree from Columbia University. Just before his retirement to Florida, the deceased held an elementary principalship in Wayne Township, Hendricks County. Prior to this, he had been superintendent of the Morgan Park Military Academy at Chicago for several years. Wyand was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity, and later served that organization’s national alumni group as secretary-treasurer Besides his work with the alumni association, Wyand was chairman of the Indiana Men’s Club Players, and was active in the West Coast Symphony and Allied Arts Association. The latter organizations are in Florida. He was born in Hillsboro the son of Hiram and Anna Bovey Wyand. Wyand was reared in that community and attended elementary classes there. He later graduated from Crawfordsville High School. Although he had not lived in Hillsboro for several years, he retained his membership in the Hillsboro Methodist Church, now the Hillsboro United Methodist Church. Wyand was also affiliated with the Hillsboro Masonic Lodge. His only survivor is a brother, Paul L. Wyand of Indianapolis. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Hillsboro United Methodist Church with Rev. Arthur Schenck officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the Crumley-Williams Funeral Home in Hillsboro from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. – jlr
