Wright - Henry J.

Henry J. Wright, the well known deaf-mute, was killed Monday afternoon. He was working alone at the Ammerman gravel pit south of Alamo loading gravel. When another man who was hauling from the same place drove into the pit, he found Wrights team and wagon but no man or shovel. Suspecting something to be wrong he dug into the freshly fallen gravel until he came on the body face up at a depth of 18”. The neck and one leg was broken. A dozen shovelfuls would have completed his load and allowed him to leave the fatal pit. Wright was industrious and in spite of his handicap made a good living for his wife and four children. This is the pit where Jo Denman was killed six years ago. – kbz
