Charles A. Wray, 84, a native of Crawfordsville died a this home in Indianapolis Sunday at 6 p.m. He had been ill for several years. He was born Aug 1, 1876, to Jereome and Ruth Burk Wray in Crawfordsville. He was educated in the Crawfordsville schools. He was a member of the Christian Church. He served with the army in the Spanish American War and worked with the YMCA in England during WWI. Resident of Crawfordsville the greater part of his life, Mr. Wray for many years ran the elevator in the Ben Hur Building. He was married to Alma Elmore of Crawfordsville. Surviving include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Cecil Thorp of Brownsburg; two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Suverkrup and Mrs. Mary Miller and a brother, Ernest Wray of Crawfordsville; 3 grandchildren 5 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, and a grandson who was killed in the Battle of the Bulge in WWII. Funeral services will be held at Jordan Funeral Home in Indianapolis, Wed at 1 p.m. Burial in Masonic Cemetery, Crawfordsville where there will be short gravesides services. -- kbz

Charles A. Wray, 5839
Beechwood, will be buried in the Masonic Cemetery at Crawfordsville after
services at 1 p.m. tomorrow in the Jordan Funeral Home here. He died Sunday
night in his home. Born in Montgomery County, Mr. Wray worked for
the Ben Hur Life association 24 years before coming to Indianapolis 12 years
ago. Here he was a state maintenance employee. During WWI he served overseas
with the American Red Cross. Survivors are the widow, Alma E. Wray, a brother
and two sisters.
