Mrs. Laura Rebecca Work passed away at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Charles B. Kern of Kossuth Street in Lafayette at 6 o'clock Tuesday evening at the age of 82 years. Laura Rebecca Work was born in Kentucky Feb 14, 1851. She was the daughter of Robert T. and Lucinda Coffery Ellis. She moved with her parents to Indiana when a young child and was brought up on a farm south of Hillsboro, Indiana, along with three brothers, James W, Robert T.and John H. Ellis and two sisters, Mrs. David Cooper and Mrs. Nathaniel Blackford. These have all preceded her in death. Before her marriage Mrs. Work taught school in Indiana and Illinois. She received her education at Alamo Academy one of the better schools of the early day. After her marriage to William R. Work, she resided in Waynetown, Indiana for three years, and then moved with her husband and two children to Independence, Kansas. After a brief residence in Kansas the husband died and Mrs. Work moved to Crawfordsville, Indiana where she lived the greater part of her life. Of late she has resided in Lafayette with her daughter, Mrs. Charles B. Kern who with a son, William E. Work of Indianapolis survive. For the past four years Mrs. Work has been confined to her home with illness. Always retiring in disposition she was devoted to her family and home. She has one grandaughter, Mrs. Mary Margaret Kern Garrard. Mrs. Work was a member of the Christian Church and throught her entire life she was devoted to the principles of Christian life. Friends ma call at the Kern residence after 3 o'clock Wednesday. Services will be held at the Kern home at 10:30 Thursday morning with the Dr. WR Graham and Rev. JH Jessup officiating. Short services for relatives and friends will also be held at the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery, Waynetown Indiana at 3 o'clock in the afternoon where interment will take place. - kbz
