Waynetown, April 4 -- Cpl. Wilbur J. Wood, 22, was drowned early Monday morning at McDill field, Tampa, Fla, according to a telegram received here Monday afternoon by his parents, Henry and Ruth WOrks Wood. Cpl. Wood was serving with the radio intelligence service of the Army Air Corps at the Florida Field. His drowning occurred when he lost his footing as he was attempting to board a passenger ferry boat and his head struck against the side, throwing him into the water. He was born at the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Callie Works, near her eon March 11, 1922; and spent his entire life on a farm in this community until his enlistment. He was a member of the Church of Christ and graduate of Waynetown HS. Survivors include Mr. and Mrs. Works, a sister, Sara, at home, and several uncles and cousins. The body is being returned to the Grenard & Servies Funeral Home here, funeral arrangements will be completed later. -- typed by kbz

Waynetown, April 3—Cpl. Wilbur J. Wood, 22, was drowned early Monday morning at McDill Field, Tampa, Fla., according to a telegram received here Monday afternoon by his parents, Henry and Ruth Works Wood.  Cpl. Wood was serving with the radio intelligence service of the Army Air Corps at the Florida field; but no details of his death were given in the telegram. He enlisted in the army Feb. 18, 1942, and is the fourth member of the armed services from this vicinity to die in this war.  He was born at the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Callie Works, near here on March 11, 1922 and spent his entire life on a farm in this community until his enlistment. He was a member of the Church of Christ and a graduate of the Waynetown High School.    Survivors include Mr. and Mrs. Works, a sister, Sara, at home, and several uncles and cousins.  The body is being returned to the Grenard and Servies Funeral Home here and funeral arrangements will be completed later. - S
