Withrow - Lewis

Lewis J. Withrow, 85, of Rt. 1, Romney, died in Lafayette Home Hospital Thursday night after being admitted earlier that day. He was a graduate of Jefferson High School in Lafayette and attended Purdue University. He was a farmer in the Jackson Township area. Mr. Withrow also served during World War I in the 400th aerial squadron. He was a member of the New Richmond United Methodist Church, a life member of the American Legion Post 11, served on the Indiana State Seed Certification Board and was on of the original directors of Tipmond REMC. Mr. Withrow was born on Feb. 6, 1892, in Benton County, a son of James and Carrie Haywood Withrow. He was reared in the Jackson Township area. On April 25, 1920, he was married to Alma Kaywood at Winona Lake. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Barbara) Ronksley of Erie, Pa.; a son, Charles L. of Haslett, Mich.; three sisters, Mrs. Claudia Gilhams of Philadelphia, Pa., Mrs. Grace Isenburg of Clarks Hill and Mrs. Caroline Burns of Old Saybrook, Conn.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The funeral will be in the Hippensteel Chapel at Lafayette at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. The Rev. Barry Fitzgerald will officiate. Burial will be in Springvale Cemetary at Lafayette. The American Legion Post 11 will have military graveside rites. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Richmond United Methodist Church. Friends may call at the Hippensteel Funeral Home from 5-9 p.m. on Saturday. – jlr
