Winger - Dorman

Dorman O. Winger, age 90, of Crawfordsville went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, Nov. 19, 2021.

He was born on a farm in Hillsboro on April 23, 1931, to the late Orley and May (Harlan) Winger.

He graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1949 and served in the United States Army as a chaplin’s assistant and played in the 221st Army band as a trombonist. On April 27, 1952, he married Carolyn Foxworthy and they were nearing 70 years of marriage. They had three daughters, Dorma Lee, Starla Jo and Tonya Kay. They also have five grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Dorman worked at RR Donnelley’s as a platemaker and foreman for 38 years. He also farmed on their farm and was an active minister for 52 years until his retirement eight years ago at many local churches and he served 15 years at two churches in Florida. He served as Crawfordsville’s First Strawberry Festival Circuit Riding preacher for 19 years. He also played in the local civic band and several orchestras and jazz bands in Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two daughters.

As per his wishes, there is only a graveside service at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Hillsboro. Family requests no flowers and memorial contributions may be given to your favorite charity or mission. Sanders Shoemaker Funeral Care in Waynetown entrusted with care.
