THORNTOWN – W. Ray Williams, 70, Thorntown, died at 1:45 a.m. Thursday in a hospital at Logansport. He had been in failing health for 10 years. Mr. Williams had resided in Thorntown the past 24 years and was employed as a sales representative by the Royal Rubber Co. of Akron, Ohio. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Shrine at Charleston, W. Va. He was a graduate of Martin’s Ferry (Ohio) High School and attended Waynesburg College. He also attended Washingtonn University – where he was an outstanding football player. The last survivor of eight sons, he was born Jan. 30, 1901, at Coalton, Ohio, to Christmas J. and Rachel Phillips Williams. He was married March 24, 1934, at Bellaire, Ohio, to Bess Millikin. She survives along with a son, David R. of Thorntown, and a grandson, David R., also of Thorntown. Funeral services will be conducted at 9 p.m. Friday at the Russell & Hitch Funeral Home here with Rev. Harold Clark officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Friday. Graveside rites will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Martin’s Ferry Ohio. – jlr
