COLFAX – Funeral services and burial for Jay B. Williams, Colfax postmaster and lifetime resident, were Thursday afternoon here. Services were held at the Colfax United Methodist Church with paste, Rev. Larry Ray, officiating. Burial was in Plainview Cemetery north of Colfax. Mr. Williams was 54. He died Tuesday morning in St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette. He has been ill for six weeks. He was postmaster of Colfax the past 22 years. He was a member of the Colfax Masonic Lodge 472, American Legion and United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of World War II. Born at Colfax April 11, 1917, he was the son of Grover and Myrtle Legg Williams. He was married Jan. 21, 1939, to Rosemary Shoemaker. Survivors include the widow; two daughters, Miss Sherry L. Williams of Hammond and Mrs. Judy Bowen of Colfax; two sons, Jay Don Williams of Carlile, Ind., and Rudy Ray Kelly of Hollywood, Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. Madeline Wright of Lafayette, Mrs. Juanita Wright of Clarks Hill and Mrs. Claire Feaster of Tempe, Ariz.; two brothers, Harold Lane of Colfax and Ralph Williams of Lawton, Okla., and three grandsons. – jlr
