Elizabeth A. Gray was born in Ohio on April 2, 1836. Her parents moved to Kentucky when she was one year old. She moved to Indiana with her parents when 18 years of age and was married to John S. Williams, June 4, 1857. She was the mother of ten children, six boys and four girls, six of whom are living, two having died in infancy, and two daughters, Sarah J. Bailey and Mamie F. Bright, dying after they were married. One daughter, Mrs. Alice Payton, of Terre Haute, Wallace M., Clinton, Charles, Leonard and John Williams, who reside in Crawfordsville with their father, survive their mother.
Mrs. Williams had been a member of the Missionary Baptist Church since 1874. She was an invalid for a year and her suffering was very severe for three months, but she bore it all with that untiring patience characteristic of a true Christian. To say that she will be missed by her family and neighbors is a mild expression of the truth. The remains were laid to rest at Oak Hill. – thanks to S for this one
