West Lafayette, Ind – Clarence R. Williams, 94 2741 N Salisbury died at 12:25 a.m. Tuesday Feb 18, 1992 in Westminster Village Health Center. He was born Oct 31, 1897 in Crawfordsville the son of Jesse M. and Ada Maud (Kepler) Williams. March 13, 1918 at Greencastle, he married Irene H. Hoffman who died Jan 10, 1984. William retired in 1962 as supt of the signal and communication department of Monon Railroad after 47 years of service. He served as Lafayette City Councilman for 166 years and was president in 1965. He was deputy business assessor for 8 years. He was named Sagamore of the Wabash by former governor Otis R. Bowen. Williams was a member of First Christian Church of Lafayette and served on the church board many times. Other memberships were Masonic Lodge 123, Old Rails and past president of High 12 Club. Surviving are three sons, James E. Williams of Ft Lauderdale, Fl and formerly of Kokomo; C Ray Williams of West Lafayette and Robert E. Williams of Potomac, Md; a sister, Loretta Cope of Phoenix, Ariz; 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Hippensteel Funeral Home at Lafayette. The Rev. Dr. Jack L. Snellgrove will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park in Lafayette. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
