William Robert “Bob” Wilhite, 78, a noted square dance violinist, died at 9:25 p.m. Saturday in the home of a daughter, Mrs. Eddie Bowerman at Waynetown, where he had resided for a year. Mr. Wilhite was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. He was employed by Mid-States Steel & Wire Co., Alcoa Co. at Lafayette and retired in 1960 from Raybestos-Manhatten. He was a native of Crawfordsville, born Sept. 24, 1892, a son of David Dar and Susan E. Payton Wilhite. He was married March 7, 1916, to Mary Agnes Grabman. Surviving in addition to the widow are three daughters, Mrs. Wallace Stewart of Crawfordsville, Mrs. Roscoe Dyson of Mellott and Mrs. Bowerman; three sons, Donald R. of Crawfordsville, Gene of Brazil and Bill of Waynetown; two brothers, Dave and Roy, both of Crawfordsville; two sisters, Mrs. Lillian Ethridge of Muncie and Mrs. Villa Neese of near Crawfordsville; 21 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. Bernard’s Catholic Church with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Henry F. Ward officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends, may call at Hunt & Son Funeral Home after 7 p.m. Monday. The Rosary will be read at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. – jlr
