Missoula, Aug. 25 --(AP)-- Charles O. Wilhite, 82, retired forest service employe (sic) who figured in the organization of the Philippine government after the Spanish-American war, died here last night. He fought in the Spanish-American war and on Jan. 1, 1900 went to the Philippines, where he aided William Howard Taft, first governor of the islands, and Gen. Douglas Mac Arthur in setting up the government. Following his release from the army, he joined the infant U. S. forest service in Washington, D. C., and in 1908 came here as a forest service employee. He had resided here since, retiring from the forest service in 1926. He was a member of Dillon lodge No. 16, AF&AM; Scottish Rite Masons, National Sojourners, United Spanish War Veterans camp No. 16 of Indiana; Sons of the American Revolution of Washington, D. C., and National Retired Siver Servicemen. Survivors include three brothers and two sisters, all of Indiana. The body is to be sent to Crawfordsville, Ind., his birthplace, for burial. -note from Marsha: His parents were Isaac S. Wilhite and Isabelle Ann Canine. Marsha L. Ensminger
