Walter A. Whittington, 92, a former resident of this city, died Wednesday at a hospital in Akron, Ohio. Mr. Whittington, a school teacher for many years, was member of a pioneer Montgomery County family. He was born in 1873 in a log cabin near Waveland. His parents were William and Rebecca Davis Whittington. He was the last survivor of their nine children. He was graduated from Wabash College in 1900 and attended his 50th class reunion here in 1950. In his early life, Mr. Whittington was a teacher and a lawyer in Crawfordsville. While here he was active in the old YMCA, located at that time in the 100 block of West Main Street. During his four years at Wabash, he was a catcher on one of the first Little Giant teams to gain wide prominence. >From Crawfordsville, Mr. Whittington moved to Enid, Okla., where he taught school for a number of years. During World War I, he moved to Akron where he had since lived. His wife, the former Georgia McIntire, preceded him in death. The only immediate survivor is a daughter, Dorothy E. Whittington of West Richfield, Ohio, a former school teacher who is widely known in literary circles. The only other survivors are nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Oak Hill Cemetery here, with Rev. O. K. Malone, pastor of the Milligan Memorial Presbyterian Church, in charge. The daughter, Miss Dorothy Whittington, will spend several days at the home of her cousin, Mrs. Don Evans, 303 Dubois Ave., and friends may call on her there.
