Sherman G. Whittington, son of Tyre G. Whittington, died at his home south of Dowden's school house in Brown township Sunday night shortly before midnight of consumption, aged forty-two years. He leaves a wife, Susan Todd Whittington, daughter of J. C. Todd, a retired farmer of this city, and a son and daughter. The funeral will occur from the residence on Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock. The interment will take place at the Indian Creek Hill cemetery. The deceased was born and raised in Brown township and lived there until about a year ago, when lung trouble induced him to go to Colorado. He improved and had nearly recovered this spring. He was so much better that he went to Kansas where he bought a farm. While putting out the crop he contracted pneumonia. Hasty consumption followed and he grew steadily worse until a month ago he was brought home, all hope of recovery abandoned.

Wednesday afternoon at the home of his father, Tyre G. Whittington, near Dowden's school house in Brown township, was held the funeral of Sherman Whittington. The services were conducted by the Rev. S. K. Fuson of Rockville. A choir from Brown's Valley sang "Gathering Home", "Nearer My God to Thee" and other selections. An immense crowd from the surrounding country was present at the ceremony as the family as well as the circle of friends of the deceased is very large. Interment was at the Indian Creek cemetery. - thanks so much to Sue P. for these two obits :)
