Source: Crawfordsville Daily Journal, 17 Dec 1917
At 11:45 o'clock last night the soul of Charles E. WHITTINGTON passed into the great beyond. He had been sick but a week, suffering from pneumonia. His friends despaired from the beginning and little hope was held out by his physician. Charles Whittington came to Crawfordsville 25 years ago and has lived a noble, Christian life in all that time. He was well beloved by those who knew him best and was one of our most popular young men, for he refused to get old and was especially popular with the younger set. He was assistant cashier at the First National Bank & a most capable and accommodating employee. Mr. Whittington was born in Brown Township in 1867 and was 50. He was the son of William and Rebecca Whittington, pioneers of the county. He had been twice married, first to Miss Julia SEAMAN. To this union were born no children. He was married the second time to Miss Sarah Armantrout and to them were born: Anna Francine, age 6; Rebecca, 8; Katherine, 13; and Richard, 11. He is survived besides his wife and children by two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Canine of Oxford, Ind; and Mrs. Abbie E. Deere of Indianapolis; and 3 brothers, TT Whittington of Emporia, Kansas; RL of Bedford and Walter A. of this city. Another brother, WT Whittington preceded him in death. He was a leading member of the Baptist Church, his membership being wit the Freedom Church in Brown Township. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. The funeral arrangements have not been fully completed but will probably be held Wednesday and burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock from the late home. Mrs. Whittington is seriously ill at the home of her brother, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Herron east Wabash Avenue.
Note: this should be (sister) and brother-in-law, Joe Herron.
