Clay Whitted, whose death occurred in Trinidad, Col., last week, was raised in Crawfordsville where he had many warm friends who will be pained to learn of his death so early in life. He was twenty four years of age and had been a member of the Christian Church for several years and still held his membership in the church at Crawfordsville at the time of his death, and, although he died far from home and among strangers, it is gratifying to his friends here to know that he received every attention and care that loving hearts and sympathetic feelings could suggest. - thanks so much to "S" who has done so much with the obituary section of this site

The Advertiser Sentinel of Trinidad, Col., makes the following mention of the death of Clay Whitted, of this city: “The funeral services of Clay Whitted, the young man who died a few days ago at the hospital, was conducted from the undertaking parlors of R. G. Sipe & Son Sunday afternoon at 2:30 by Rev. T. S. Wheeler, of the M. E. Church, south. Mr. Whitted came here about two months ago for his health. His death, no doubt, was a great shock to his parents. The father indicated to his son in a letter written but a few days ago that he had perfect confidence in his recovery.
A number of Masons, through respect and sympathy for the father who was also a Mason, attended the service, six of the number acting as pallbearers. Although the young man was a stranger, the service was in many respects a sad one. Sad in that his last sickness was away from home among strangers and that in the hour of death no soothing hand of father, mother, sister, or brother could be felt. Sad, also, in that the last service held over the remains, the loved ones of his home could not be present. But a concourse of sympathetic hearts followed his remains to the Masonic Cemetery and gentle hands laid them to rest as carefully and tenderly as though he had been their dearest friend. He died far away from his earthly home but the heavenly home is always near.” =s
