Walter Lee Whitecotton, 65, a retired Mid-States Steel & Wire Co. employe, died Thursday at 5:30 a.m. in the home of his son, Lee Whitecotton, 302 S. Washington St. He had been in failing health for several months and was being cared for at his son’s home. Walter Whitecotton and his wife resided at Yountsville before his illness. Mr. Whitecotton was born April 17, 1897, son of William and Elizabeth Plunkett Whitecotton. He was married Oct. 8, 1921, to Laura Thompson. Mr. Whitecotton was a member of the Freedom Baptist Church. He had worked at the Mid-States Steel & Wire Co. for 21 years and retired one year ago. He farmed earlier in his life. Survivors include the widow, the mother, living in Crawfordsville; three sons, Lee and Bob of Crawfordsville and Bill of Richmond; two daughters, Mrs. Helen Meadows and Mrs. Betty Myers, both of Waveland; two brothers, Fred and John of Waveland; three sisters, Mrs. Opal Gilbert of Crawfordsville, Mrs. Myrtle Priebe of Waveland and Mrs. Mary Reynolds of Dayton, Ohio; 25 grandchildren, and a great-grandson. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Saturday afternoon at the Hunt and Son Funeral Home. Rev. Paul Hubble will officiate. Burial will be in the Freedom Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Friday.
