Charles Wesley White passed peacefully away at 8 a.m. Friday, Nov. 18, 1898, at his home in Linden, Ind., at the advanced age of 80 years, 4 months and 21 days. He had been in his usual health until the evening before his death, when he was taken suddenly ill with a chill and shortly afterwards passed into an unconscious condition, remaining so until death relieved him.
He was the pioneer settler of Madison Township, having moved near Linden in 1830. In 1832 he moved to his present farm, adjoining Linden. He was a prominent member of the M. E. Church, named for one of the founders of Methodism and reared to a strict observance of its precepts. His home became noted for the hospitalities extended to ministers. Many a weary itinerant has driven far into the night to reach the friendly shelter of his roof. His aged wife, four sons and five daughters survive him. -s
