Covington – Andrew ‘A.J.’ Whitaker, 71, of Rt. 3, died Wednesday evening in his home. He had been in ill health for seven years. Mr. Whitaker was a member of Southern Baptist Church. He was retired from auto body work in 1973. He had owned his own shop. He had been a resident of Rt. 3 since 1943 and was formerly of Danville, Ill. Born Jan. 25, 1910, in Fountain County, he was a son of Charles E. and Rachael Barr Whitaker. He was married in 1929 to Ethel Flaharty, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. David (Margaret Ann) Richy of Covington and Mrs. James (Carolee) Huston of Williamsport; six sons, Charles, Joe, Dan and Tim of Covington, James of Perrysville and Steve of Tab; 25 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Lola Jones and Mrs. Lillian Moyer of Danville, Ill., and Mrs. Ruby Bunnell of Covington; and several nieces and nephews. Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday in Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home with the Rev. J. Briggs Caing officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home 3-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday. smc
