NEW RICHMOND—Mrs. Nettie Whipple, 96 and the oldest resident of this community, died about 11 a.m. Thursday in Westbrook Nursing Home at Crawfordsville. She had been in failing health two and one-half years and had been a patient at the nursing home during that time. A life-long resident of this community, she was born Sept. 2, 1867, daughter of James and Mary Bible Clarkson. She married David Whipple in September of 1889. He died in 1930. Mrs. Whipple attended Meharry School and Methodist Church here. Surviving are two sons, Elga of New Richmond and Virgil of Crawfordsville; two daughters, Mrs. Stella Harriman and Mrs. Elsie LaFoe, both of Crawfordsville; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, a daughter, two brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Helms Funeral Home in Linden with Rev. Harold Clark officiating. Interment will be in Linden Cemetery. Friends may pay their respects at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Friday
