Wheeler - Sherman

Sherman Wheeler, 65, a resident of the Lena community for the past 18 years and a former resident of Crawfordsville and Stauton (Staunton), died at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in his home after a brief illness. He was a semi-retired farmer, had worked as a journeyman too and die maker for Press Steel at Hammond and had been employed by Ace Hardware at Greencastle. Mr. Wheeler had attended West Union and Lena Church of Christ. Born April 17, 1915, at Staunton, was he was a son of William Thomas and Jeanette Blanche Morris Wheeler. The family moved to Ohio, where he attended school, and he later moved back to Indiana. He was married Nov. 25, 1962, to Betty Lou Coyle who survives. Also surviving are a son, Harold of Griffith; two daughters, Mrs. Luther (Sandra) Lofland of Crawfordsville and Jeanette B. at home; a stepson, Terry Henry at home; two brother; five sisters; nine grandchildren; 22 stepgrandchildren; one stepgreat-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. A brother, Leroy, is deceased. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Lawson-Slack Funeral Home at Brazil with burial in Calcutta Cemetery northeast of Brazil. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-9 p.m. Tuesday. -- smc
