Ralph Leslie Whalen, 67, of 409 N. Grant Ave., died at 5:30 p.m. Saturday in Culver Hospital. He had been ill several months. He was a member of the United Brethren Church and had been in the restaurant and upholstering business here and operated a liquor store in Darlington until his retirement due to ill health five years ago. He was a native of Crawfordsville, born Sept. 1, 1901 to William and Lottie Boyland Whalen. He was wed to Lovancie Swank on July 10, 1944. Survivors include his wife; a sister, Ida Opal Cramer of Pittsburgh, Pa., and two nephews, Robert Whalen of Waynetown and Keith Whalen of Crawfordsville. Two brothers and a sister are deceased. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hunt and Son Funeral Home, where friends may call. Rev. Leland Brett will officiate, with burial in IOOF Cemetery at Darlington.
